The real impact of AI in the military will be autonomous weapons if they can figure out a way to preserve the learning of the program.
The program would almost always be destroyed with its physical host.
The idea being swarms of bots (terrestrial and airborne), each expendable, into which we would program an objective with clarity.
But for the most part the behaviors of the pod will also have to be pre-programmed, given that they would be expendable...and it will be difficult to retrieve the learning. And a few hours is not long enough to get really, really smart.
But with each returned single unit the learning can grow.
The tricky thing is training it.
