[[ Not sure I would want to continue using Win 7 for any bank or investment account when the security patches stop.]]

Use linux :) (look into dual booting)

[[When I think Win7 have at last run its course, I’ll be using Mac and Linux systems for anything that doesn’t absolutely require Windows. Sad, but true.]]

Anothe3r solution might be to link two computers, one, windows 7, without any access to internet, to another, windows 10, that does- that way you could transfer any files you need that were done on the 7 comp to the 10 computer-

There must be a solution- perhaps using VM- and deleting the session (doing a rollback) after you go offline- so that credit card numbers, banking info, isn’t kept in the VM files?-

[[Any vague references to sudo and command line when something goes wrong will lose about 98% of the prospective “market”. ]]

Meh- I’m not a nut about linux, but i do like it for my simple needs- been running mint for a couple of years now, and haven’t had to do anything in the command line- but then again i only use it for browsing Internet, email etc- I’m sure peopel that like to mess with an os would have to use command lines alot- but nope- not me- it just works for what i use it for, and don’t need to mess with it- so far anyways

[[I’ve really wanted Linux to succeed on my equipment but such is not the case....]]

Do you have an old computer or something? My comp is about 10 years old now or so, but linux just ran right out of the box after updating a few drivers like vid card, and one obscure usb3 driver which admittedly was a pain, but not too difficult- that was the only real issue i’ve had with linux- but like i said, my needs are simple, browsing Internet, and email- Everything just worked right out of the box really- foudn all my hardware, installed automatically the drivers-

When was last time you tried linux? years ago linux was a real pain, and i stopped trying to get it to work- but these days it’s all really automatic- you can burn a CD and try it without installing it if you haven’t tried it in awhile, I would recommend linux mint- really easy flavor-

Not tryign to push you to linux- just curious how long ago you tried it?

Use linux :) (look into dual booting)

While I have time, I really need to investigate Linux now. I am familiar with UNIX from decades of using it at work, but I haven't set up a PC at home for Lunix, nor looked at how PC applications work with it. I probably wouldn't even dual boot. Just leave the current PC to use Win applications outside of browsing and account access. Just get a separate PC for Lunix, or just convert my wife's as she rarely ever uses it.

you can download and make a CD of linux to try it without installing it- it’s a good way to get to know it and any changes you make will not affect your windows os- when you power down and take CD out it goes right back to your windows os- it’s a little slow when running off the CD- but not too bad-

another option, which wouldn’t be too hard, would be to get a new hard drive, a cheap one (you only need a few gigs- like 50 or 100 or so) and install linux on it if you are comfortable doing things like that- I have a couple of hard drives i picked up really cheap second hand that i installed a couple different flavors of linux on- and can just pop them in computer easily enough if i want to use them-

[[ Just get a separate PC for Lunix,]]

If all you’re gonna use it for is like browsing itnernet, and email- you can pick up really heap secodn hand computers- you won’t need a powerful one either- linux runs really fast even on old computers- but of course, look for most powerful one for cheapest amount possible- This is actually a great idea as you can switch back and forth when you need to run windows only programs or games- even a small laptop to run the windows os on, and use the desktop for everyday browsing or vice versa- Might even wanna look into a switch box so that one is online while the other isn’t- that way your windows os would be way more secure- not beign online all the time

There’s lots of possibilities- I’d probably do with the cheap computer for linux myself- although the extra hard-drive isn’t too hard to do either-

That and access to any financial or bank account. That's not happening on a Win 7 PC that isn't patched in the future, and certainly not with my smartphone.

yah i would def do any banking online with a linux os- or any credit cards- better yet, do it on a linux machine that only has brief access to internet if you have a cheap computer you can hook up to cable or wifi or whatever only for such transactions- then unplug and use another linux machine for daily browsing- and keep all your credit cards and bank info and such off the daily browser- but not everyone has several computers- but that woudl be safest scenario
