FULL TITLE: I love you, too: George H.W. Bush's final words to his son just before the 41st president peacefully passed away aged 94 surrounded by family in Houston
A longtime friend of George Herbert Walker Bush has painted a peaceful picture of the 41st president's final days on earth before he passed away aged 94 surrounded by family at his home in Houston, Texas.
James A Baker III, both Bush's friend and former secretary of state, told the New York Times that the 94-year-old had been fading over the last week - spending most of his time sleeping, not eating and never getting out of bed.
Baker said that although the former president had defied death multiple times over the years - struggling with a form of Parkinson's and being hospitalized with pneumonia several times in recent months - this time felt different.
Baker stopped by the Bush home on Friday to check on his old friend - or perhaps to say goodbye.
He said as soon as he entered the room, Bush perked up, asking: 'Where are we going, Bake?'
Baker answered: 'Were going to heaven.'
'Thats where I want to go,' Bush replied.
Within 13 hours, the 94-year-old was on his way.
Friends and family flocked to Bush's bedside on Friday evening as it became clear that the end was near.
His final conversation was a speaker phone call with his son, George W. Bush, who praised him as a 'wonderful dad' and told him that he loved him.
'I love you, too,' the father said - his last words on earth.

RIP Former President George H.W. Bush
I’d personally sell Bill Clinton Depends because of all the s*** they put out
Yes nice pictures. I do have an observation though.
I notice the the heartwarming stuff, even though extremely intimate and personal, is proudly broadcast across all media outlets.
When something juicy happens, divorce, cheating, drugs, gay revelations, etc, it’s all “please respect the family’s privacy.”
I would have kept something as poignant as my father’s last words within my immediate circle. A chacun son gout.
gaut*
Thanks for feeding America's enemy.
I wonder if they can now declassify the Kennedy assassination report now that the last CIA participant has died?
I sure hope he came to terms with himself after that fiasco in Dallas TX, yeah you know the one in Dealey Plaza, right?
James Baker III is a disgusting person. I’ll be glad when this Bush retrospective frenzy has passed
I was not on speaker phone with my dad
You know the Bush family calls WJC “SON”...?
Disgusting, huh..?
They asked HW Bush where he was when JFK was shot:
“I don’t remember”
But he was in DALLAS.
If you were in Dallas the very day JFK died there, how likely is it that you’d forget that..?
He served! We all do. Day in day out. Some of us leave a mark. God Bless!
Heartwarming, seriously, but trying to destroy Trump and what they did to Reagan is disgusting. F-em all.
I was not on speaker phone with my dad
><
No, you weren’t.
(You told me the story).
Reading the responses to this thread just remind me of the pettiness and bitterness so many people hold. A man has died, and yet some just can’t contain their desire to take nasty parting shots at him, his family, friends, or whoever was in his orbit. Its pretty pathetic to be honest.
Some would argue the DU crowd is worse when it comes to grave dancing. Based on what I’ve read today, I would beg to disagree.
Sounds like after Barbara passed away, he pretty much was ready to go.
He was a true hero during WWII. Many years ago I watched an old grainy video of him being rescued from his sinking aircraft. The man had what it takes and was a real warrior.
Writing that, as a politician he was a globalist, GOPe elitist and I cannot forgive him that.
Bump that 1000X
Barbara Bush had Foundation for Family Literacy that had a Celebration of Reading event near me.
A friend of mine’s Dad was a retired Ford lobbyist who would get a bunch of tickets.
One year when the event was over and he wanted to leave through a side door in the auditorium. George and Barbara were standing there and the Secret Service protecting Bush.
They said no that we had to go the long way.
My friend’s Dad angrily said to them “I’m old and I have to pee and this is the closest way to the bathroom.
George and Barbara start laughing. Then George gets serious and says to the Secret Service “You better them go” And then starts laughing again.
Been to Doro’s house. She’s very sweet.
W. was barely OK. What the heck happened to Jeb?
