Yep, all that Glock will do is piss the grizzly off. You have to understand that a bullet can penetrate as deeply as it can to no avail. UNless it hits brain or heart, the bear blubber seals the wound and Mr. Grizzly will keep right on a coming.
A .40 will bounce right off a grizzly skull from the front.
“Yep, all that Glock will do is piss the grizzly off.”
Hmmmm...
“We have found four cases where 9 mm pistols were used to defend against bears. All were successful...
...The male grizzly bluff charged several times...The aggressive bear was finally shot with the 9 mm pistol at close range. It ran off...the bear was found dead the next day. Eye-witness believes it was one shot to the chest of the bear.”
One can never be certain, but there are a number of cases where shooting a big bear with a small handgun worked out OK for the shooter.
I'm skeptical of that claim. Bears do not use their heads for butting or ramming so their skulls are not thick. It's not like shooting a bison in the forehead. At pistol ranges, a .40 S&W (as would a 9mm) will pass through a bear's skull provided the shooter remembers that a bear's brain sits low in its head and aims right between the eyes. I'd want something more substantial but it could get the job done.
