All the bear spray did was get Mark Uptain killed.
Anyone who carries anthing less than a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 magnum or larger, is under armed when hunting in Grizzly land. In this case,it led to tragedy.
I have seen a .44 mag Ruger Super Blackhawk 50 yard head shot to a 1200 pound bull moose, turn the animal over on its back in an instant kill, all 4 legs to the sky. It will stop a grizzly.
If they had a Ruger revolver of the caliber you suggest, this probably would have had a better ending.
There is always a better chance for something to go wrong with a semi-auto in such a harrowing situation. Revolvers are simpler and more reliablem
Sad needless tragedy. There have been many instances of attacks by bears in situitions like this one.
I use bear spray. I also have a Ruger .44 mag pistol.
I spray the bullets before I load the pistol.
That way the bear spray will get to the bear much faster and seems to be more effective.

Yep, some nice hard-cast flat points like the LBT designs.
No gun is big enough when ite in the pack, i will gladly carry my 40 small and weak with undersood extreme penetrating rounds for bears, 14 rounds that i can shoot well beats 4-6 of 44 on target.
