An affidavit we obtained describes the day a man on the Northeast side shot and killed a cat on an apartment balcony. A witness provided a statement of the event, accusing Donald Martin, 77, of animal cruelty. The statement says the witness saw the cat eating out of a bowl on the morning of Nov. 12 before hearing a loud noise. After the witness looked up, she saw Martin holding something in his hand as the cat seized up. Animal Care Services investigators said he shot at a group of cats, which residents at the complex typically help caring for... SAPD officers arrested Martin Tuesday morning. Martin is facing animal cruelty charges, a state felony punishable by two years in jail and up to $10,000 in fines.

Kill a cat go to jail. Kill an innocent baby win election to office. What’s wrong with this picture?
He shot the cat on someone’s balcony? He should be put away and die in prison.
Kill a cat, go to jail.
Create your own pop-up CIA, kill a dictator and overthrow a country, induce a human-tide into Europe of fatalistic, book-eschewing, butt-obsessed modernity haters..?
NO PROBLEM..!
Idiotic use of a firearm. My guess is that the guy has other issues and this is a timely spotlight on him.
Life for life? What he did was wrong, but ultimately a cat is just an animal. We do tend to anthromorphize our pets.
Unfortunately most animal cruelty felony charges are negotiated down to misdemeanors with minimal jail time in order to avoid the cost of a trial and incarceration.
The firearm was a BB gun. The cats were probably a nuisance to him so he shot one. All the cats on my dead end street know to stay out of my back yard. They probably heard about all the squirrels and raccoons that were felled by .177 hollow point lead pellets at 1,020 f.p.s. courtesy of Gamo. There was a big gray Tom that used to sit just outside of the rear sliding glass door at night to taunt my dog when he was still alive. About the third time that happened I cocked the Gamo and the pellet just missed the cat who was lucky it was dark. I never saw that cat in the back yard again.
The cat was an animal. The guy is a sicko monster.
Feral cats doing damage are fair game in my book.
I would suggest a cb cap .22 to reduce the sound level to popcorn sound levels.
I have a cat. I like MY cat. But I have limitations.
According to another poster it was a BB gun and not a firearm. That makes sense because I would imagine shooting a firearm in a apartment complex would get you charged with felony criminal recklessness with a firearm.
Do you do the same with nuisance neighbors or will it be ok if they do unto you?
Not that I condone killing a harmless animal like that but there have been millions of fetuses murdered in this country and only one person is in prison for that.

Animal cruelty, including of this type, should be severely punished. If you prick them, do they not bleed?
Neighbors have never come into my back yard uninvited.
Again, apples and oranges.
He shot and killed a cat. The cat was on his owners porch on his owners property.
Obviously, I should go over and shoot his children and grandchildren while they play in their backyard. Fair is fair. Right?
Oh, it’s a BB gun. No problem. I’ll use a 22-250. Equal justice.
You probably deprived your dog of his only nighttime entertainment.
And that is no reason to shoot at a cat.
Did you misss the part where he shot the cat on a neighbor’s balcony. Is that okay with you?
