Teenage driver Sophia Floersch will undergo surgery for a spinal fracture after a spectacular airborne crash in the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix on Sunday.
The 17-year-old German tweeted: "Just wanted to let everybody know that I am fine but will be going into Surgery tomorrow (Monday) morning ... Update soon."

Wow, a horrible crash over the fence and into the reporters stand. She hit headfirst into the stand.
F3 is just under F1 in skill and performance so she must have been a very good driver. I am amazed that she survived.
Four people injured, all conscious.
She’s lucky that camera platform was there.
Open wheel PING for Chode.
She spent 7 hours in surgery today and everything so far seems as good as could be expected.
Well thank god it hit the reporters stand.
That’s one of the worst crashes I’ve ever seen.
I think the pink and white car that ran off down the escape road got into her and spun her before the turn.
Too fast will kill you....
Hoping that the surgery was a success and that she'll be okay.
.
Those cars have huge downforce when going forward in the right direction. They can brake so fast into a corner which is what they have to do to keep their pace.
But, if spun backwards, you do not get aerodynamic downforce. You get aerodynamic lift. So even if your brakes are locked up there is no force onto the road to create friction.
She probably did not slow down much from the time she got spun while the other cars probably had several G’s of downforce to slow down quickly. That is why she flew by at such a speed difference.
Yes, the F3 cars don’t have the halo head protection like the F1 cars.
Thanks for that...I’d been wondering why she looked like she’d been launched going into the turn.
If I had to guess, she got spun backwards and then her rear tire hit another cars rear tire. The direction of spin of the tires of the car in front will launch the other car into the air. Indy Cars have introduced bodywork to prevent the tire-tire contact that can launch a car.
Looking again I think she got spun by the pink and white car. Going backwards she lost downforce and even got lift so she could not slow down like the other cars. Then she hit the back tire of the yellow and white car. The back of the rear tire is moving upward and likely launched her car into the air when her car contacted it. If it was tore-tire contact, the grip is even more and will really launch a car.
I looked several more times and it looks like the back of her car hit the right front tire of the yellow and white car because it had the suspension broken going into the turn.
That ist ein stark schone frau.
“she must have been a very good driver”
The video proves she wasn’t.
