Boston's euphoric street party celebrating the city's fourth World Series title in 15 years has claimed at least one casualty.
Security was heavy for Wednesday's duck boat parade carrying the victorious Red Sox through downtown. There were few problems, but one fan reportedly tossed a full can of beer at one of the boats, and it struck and slightly damaged a World Series trophy.
Boston police said they arrested a Massachusetts teen on Boylston Street after they saw him throw an unopened can of beer at one of the duck boats, striking an adult male party on board.
Patrick Connolly, 19, of Sandwich, is charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
Police did not say whether Connolly is the same person who threw the beer that damaged the World Series trophy.
Video from the parade showed beer cans being tossed to several Red Sox players riding in the parade on duck boats, including pitchers Matt Barnes, Joe Kelly and Craig Kimbrel and outfielder Mookie Betts. Barnes could be seen catching a beer, while Betts was seen dropping one.
One onlooker told the Boston Globe she got hit in the face with a beer, and medics told her she might need stitches.
Mayor Marty Walsh had urged residents before the World Series to be respectful, saying "The Red Sox catch phrase this season is 'Do damage' -- that's for the players on the field, not the fans in the streets."
He also said this week that public drinking would not be tolerated during the parade.
Hundreds of thousands of jubilant fans skipped school and work to cheer for the team during Wednesday's parade, giving this year's Halloween a special flavor on a crisp autumn day. Many wore Red Sox gear instead of Halloween costumes.
Get ya a beer? Don't cost nothin'.
I suppose we should be grateful they didn’t burn the city down. Congrats Red Sox. Try and keep it classy.
I live in a wicked classy place, what can I say?
If your team loses you riot.
If your team wins you riot.
People today are stupid.....................
Is this the most “Boston” thing ever?

Shouldn't he be charged with alcohol abuse?
Welcome back to Boston I thought.
Pretty much.
Remember the poor girl that died in 2004 after the ALCS———crowds frighten me,always have.
.
Bobcat Goldthwait: “These riots after championships—I said to one guy, Why did you turn over that car? He kinda looked at me sheepishly and said, ‘(chuckle), ‘Niners...;’ “
Jimmy Tingle (yeah, a big lib) on reasons why people drink:
“We won the game. We LOST the game. THE GAME GOT RAINED OUT!”
Recall one year there was rioting after Oakland, IIRC,
LOST the Super Bowl. There were also riots in Vancouver when Canucks lost to Bruins in Stanley Cup Finals.
Woman in Boston died after hit by pepper spray projectile
after Red Sox won ALCS. Victoria Snelgrove.
>>This “crowd-control” bullet hit her eye, causing her to bleed excessively. Ambulances were blocked by the excessive crowds, which still refused to clear the area, preventing prompt medical attention from arriving from the dense medical area only a half-mile away
Wow! I have never been to the north. Would love to visit historical places like Boston for its history. Guess I would need to take a course in Bostonian mannerisms first though.
Try and keep it classy.
You ever been to MA?
They have no clue what the word means.

It’s great here-——jealous?
.
You don’t want to know what they do to The Stanley Cup.
So I’ve heard.
Vancouver ‘11 (may have been part of lefty extremists?)

That’s why they’re called “Massholes”.
I lived there for 12 yrs. There is a term widely used to describe MA residents. That term is “Masshole”.
You could look it up.
It is well deserved
No drinking at a parade -- because people can't control themselves, or because the governments they enable get off on controlling people. Either way, that's just sad. Not great at all.
When the AZ Diamondbacks won the 2001 World Series, one of the players holding the trophy accidentally dropped and damaged it. It was a big (GASP) OOPS at the time.
The trophy was quickly fixed, made good as new.
