Bypass paywalls with Outline.com
Outline.com ^ | 13 OCT 24 | E. Pluribus Unum

I just discovered that you can enter the URL of an article that is behind a paywall into Outline.com and it returns a text copy of the entire article.

Just thought I'd past it on.

I see how the site removes ads and popups and stuff... but not how it displays the whole article.

I tried by going to wsj.com, clicking on any old article. A new page appears without all the hoopla, but the article text itself stops just where the original site ended, requiring a login or registration to continue.

It works for me on WSJ articles. I tried it on several articles.

That's weird, works with another wsj article just fine.

But, not for this one.

I just tried it on Washington Post. In my browser it blocks me out. In Outline.com I can see the whole thing. I’m not lying.

It works on that one for me.

At least you see that it does work... sometimes.

Funny, I did that with a WSJ article, and I got the whole article. It was exhilarating! It didn't stop with a login thingie.

I can't imagine why it would work for me and not for you. Must be the season of the glitch.

There are two kinds of paywalls, I believe. One downloads the whole page and then blocks it behind a window, the other just does a partial download.

I think it works on the first kind, since the text is actually there in the HTML.
