As a crowded group of Clemson University students and local residents danced and jumped around at an apartment clubhouse late Saturday night, Jeremy Tester felt something strange beneath his feet.
"You could hear the floor about to go through, kind of," he said, "but nobody thought it was going to happen. They just kept going." But suddenly the floor gave way. Dozens of partiers dropped into free fall and landed in a mass of sprawling bodies in the basement. Police said 30 people were injured when the floor of the apartment clubhouse collapsed during a party on homecoming weekend in Clemson, South Carolina.

“You could hear the floor about to go through, kind of,” he said, “but nobody thought it was going to happen. They just kept going.”
They won’t learn.
Apartment complex. I’m guessing cheap modern construction with 24” on-center spacing of floor joists. That and/or engineered I-joists instead of traditional solid wood joists.
More yutes than students...
The injuries are bad enough, I’m sure. But I hope no one was downstairs.
“Adams, who also attended the party, said he felt the floor going up and down like a trampoline as people jumped around to the music. He told his friends they needed to go on the balcony but the floor cracked before they could get out of the way. Adams didn’t fall.”
This is what alcohol and group think in combination can lead to.
Any engineer will tell you that any type of span, roof, floor, bridge etc. if it is hit with rhythmic waves of vibration will develop a sympathetic sway or bending movement that will take out pretty well anything holding it together. Enough weight of bodies with feet moving in a synchronized rhythm will just start the floor joists a bouncing.
If they were playing chess, studying, or plotting to resist their Marxist indoctrination....this wouldn’t have happened.
More likely older construction if had 24 inch joist spacing.
Cheap particle board flooring or way, way too many people. Probably the former.
If the were, they aren’t anymore. That’d be a crusher.
I can only hope that if it was socialists-marxists-commies, that none survived.
Low Bid Overload..Whoooops
Look for a MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Dancing) commercial to come from this. Heh.
Probably right on that.
First floor
I was in the Sugar Bowl in 87 when Alex Van Halen set up a wave form by rolling the low drums. The concrete literally went up and down a half a foot. I thought he was gonna kill us all.
How about too many people jumping up and Dow in unison.
