Riveron: NFL will again consider making hair pulls illegal
NBC Sports ^ | 19 October 2018 | Mike Florio

Last Sunday, Texans defender Jadeveon Clowney dragged Bills running back Chris Ivory to the ground with a hair pull. It’s a legal maneuver. Eventually, it may not be...The easiest solution to the situation could be to place limits on hair length. However, the Collective Bargaining Agreement currently states that players cannot be disciplined in any way based on hair length.

I saw Clowney's hair tackle on Chris Ivory last week.

Clowney snapped Ivory's head back, and Ivory's feet came right off the ground.

Maybe if they cut their hair the problem would go away.

Funny thing is, it was one guy with long hair, tackling another guy with long hair, which might just prompt them to do this.

Not sure what I think about that.

I'd be OK if they just instituted a literacy test.

I suppose if they trip over their own hair they replay the down.

NO it isn't. The easiest solution is to just keep on the way we are.

If someone wants to be a better player he will shorten his hair. Allowing one more way to be tackled is just plain stupid in my opinion, but I am not a football player.

NFL defenders are no longer allowed to make solid, form-perfect tackles without fear of drawing a ridiculous 15 yard flag. If hair pulling is all that’s left, they’ve got to do what they’ve got to do.

Always thought that should be an illegal move.

Here's an idea...have the players with long hair tuck it inside their helmets.
Ref can ban them from the field if it's flowing.
How hard is it to figure that out?

A player's hair is considered part of his uniform, and long hair can cover portions of a ball carrier's uniform that could otherwise be used to make a tackle.

The rule should stay. Any player who is concerned about the issue should consider cutting their hair or bundling it up under their helmet.

If the NFL were stupid enough to change this rule, I could imagine players who frequently carry the ball growing massively long hair, and splaying it out all over their back in order to avoid tackles and/or draw penalties.

No. A player's hair is part of his uniform, and there's a logical reason for the rule. The incident cited above could simply be resolved with an unnecessary roughness or unsportsmanlike conduct call if a tackle was excessive—just like any other case of excessive behavior is engaged in.

It's so ridiculous that there would be hand-wringing about this issue. The rules already cover—perfectly adequately—all potential situations regarding tackling a ball carrier by his hair.

This is just another tempest in a teapot—and a totally phony debate...

Predator style hair looks ridiculous but functions as a well-placed handle. It should be the primary target of a pursuing tackler.

This Collective Bargaining has taken most all the authority away from the Managers and Coaches. This makes more kneeling incidents more likely. A few of the players look ridiculous with their fake weaves flouncing about like a girl swinging her long braids. Isn’t that Cultural Appropriation? I thought that was now declared to be a bad thing. Put the focus back on the game and the team.

I think it adds to the game to see the long hairs pulled down by their long hair. They want it long then take the consequences.

Bingo. You want to succeed in a sport that essentially requires you to train and perform like a gladiator, then don’t give your opponent an advantage.

If those over-paid pansies want to grow hair out like a woman - that is their decision - but it then becomes a legitimate hand-hold for tackles.

What? You can’t lick their faces, and now you can’t even pull their hair? What next, no kissing in the huddles?

Make them tuck their hair inside
their helmet. A few 90 deg days
of hard play, the hair will be gone.
One must dress appropriately for the
job they do. Don’t want your hair
pulled....don’t grow it long enough
to pull...simple.
