In that interval I was told by no less than three of the state's best official wildlife experts that it was beyond question that I was mistaken.

Government opinions - the best money can buy. Why, look what they told us about Global Warming. /s

I'm pretty sure the Feds have known everything about Sasquatch for decades, but for reasons ranging from lawsuits over missing persons cases to national security considerations (if the Navy can use dolphins, what could a Marine Force Recon unit do with a Sasquatch?) they have decided we don't need to know.

There is too far much mundane, "boring" evidence and far too many sightings by rational, level-headed people. They won't be able to hide behind the ridiculing of witnesses forever.

A path-breaking researcher (David Paulides) has reported on a pattern of mysterious disappearances in the national forests that the feds doggedly minimize and cover up. Attacks by Bigfoot are one plausible explanation.

I have been told the same thing by Kentucky wildlife experts, game wardens and National Park rangers. No, no you saw a bobcat. Right except it was three times as big as the biggest bobcat I have ever saw, it has the head of a mt. lion, not that of a bobcat, it has the brown color of a mt. lion and has the long tail of a mt. lion. I have seen it several times as well as my wife and mother-in-law, all same description, plus have found tracks in snow around the house, yet they just don’t exist according to the keepers of all animal knowledge.

As for boogers as they are called in the mountains of Kentucky, I’m open to their existence but haven’t seen definite proof. Living in the mountains and way out in the boonies I can tell you there are things in the woods that will chill you to the bone if you hear them start carrying on in the dark of night and don’t know what they are. A fox screaming, a mt. lion going on like a woman screaming, two raccoons engaged in battle or a pack of coyotes slaughtering a stray dog. However, there have been things happen around my home which I cannot explain, they match no known animal sounds or behavior in the Appalachian mountains. Yet I cannot say it is a booger, it is just unexplained and very strange.

Can you share what was strange or unexplained?

Might jog an interesting explanation out of someone...

Yikes! You have this city kid wondering if the small patch of woods down the street is too risky for anyone other than large armed parties.

Lets see where to start. Again we live in the middle of no where with only my mother-in-law as a neighbor and when it gets dark she is inside and doors locked.

When we first moved in things were fairly quite for a while and then one evening my wife and I in late spring, early summer would go outside and sit on the front porch in rocking chairs and enjoy the evening listening to the various animals and bugs carrying on in the woods. We have a street light in our front yard and aside from that the rest of the yard is pitch black and even more so in the mountains surrounding us.

She would put our small children in bed for the evening and we would sit outside on the wrap around porch and rock and talk. I would usually beat her outside by ten to twenty minutes and then when the kids were down she would come out. Strangely it was early June and over a three day period I had noticed what smelled like rotting garbage and road kill but it would not occur until my wife would come outside and join me. I even commented to her the third night that it only started when she came outside and she was like ha-ha, but then said you know I smell have smelled it at well.

Anyway we are sitting there rocking and talking and you know how you can hear critters walking the gait and know it is two legged or four legged and we were hearing that for about ten minutes after she came out and then it just stopped. We would hear something moving but couldn’t figure the gait out, and it would be to our left, then in front and then on the right but again we couldn’t figure the gait out on it. I mentioned it to her and she said yeah I hear it but don’t recognize it either. Finally after about twenty minutes things just went silent, I mean no movement, no bugs carrying on, no owls or birds just dead silent and commented listen everything has gone dead quite, it was around 10:30-10:45pm.

We stopped talking and just listened and all of a sudden we kind of heard and felt a very loud sound of a piece of wood being struck against either our house or the end of the wrap around porch on the right back side of the house. There were probably ten to twelve solid whacks of wood hitting wood very hard and loud, you know how wood hitting another piece of wood makes a distinctive sound. I always sat with a .357 revolver on me and unholstered immediately and my wife’s eyes were big a saucers and she said what was that!!! I said you tell me this is your families land and you grew up here. I have no clue she said and I started down the porch towards the end where it occurred and told her, get my M1 carbine out of the front closet. And she went inside to get it and I got to the corner to turn and head toward the direction of the noise, essentially our porch is int he shape of an upside down L and the booger light in the yard died out at the cut so the back yard and area I was getting ready to head into was pitch black.

I hollered who in the hell is hitting my house, you are about to get your ass shot off! No response but rustling in the darkness and backyard and the woods are still silent. I cocked the .357 and said you better get the hell out of here who ever you are and cracked off a magnum round into the yard, about that time my wife pokes me and hands me the M1 and I hand her the .357 and tell her go inside and to the back porch light, when you hear me turn on the light. I chamber the carbine and start down the porch into the darkness and I am still hearing all sorts of commotion in the yard, footfalls but heavy sounding.

I got the end of the porch and I yell again you better get the hell out of here! At that point I point to a dirt bank where I can see nothing is there from a glimmer of the booger light and crank off about five or six rounds and I hear something-someone hit the tree line and all I can say is it sounds like a something is tearing through the woods like a freight train going parallel to my house and my MIL’s house and headed into the deep mountains where there are no houses or roads. My wife turned the light on and there is nothing near the house and silence except for sounds I described trailing away from the house. We went to the front porch still shaken and sat a few minutes and slowly the woods came back to life. I have no clue what caused the loud strikes. A friend suggested a woodpecker and I said no way, the strikes were not quick enough for a woodpecker and this was wood hitting wood.

Other strange things occur at times as well. For example my wife likes to walk about the property but stays close to the wood line when we have a big snow and she says about every time she hears wood knocks when she gets to a certain area around her Moms house. Her Mom essentially locks her house up tight in the winter and moves to a house in town for winter so we keep an eye on the place while she is gone. The knocks range from one to three usually. She is a big time skeptic on boogers but says I can’t deny the wood knocks they happen most of the time when she is out walking in winter.

We have also got out of our vehicles, again me and her and it around 5:00pm in the evening and we will hear in the distance and on one occasion close, a whoop or a strange whoop with a growl mixed in. My oldest son who was around 14 at the time was in our den during summer when school was out and he was playing his xbox with a cousin online and it was around 2:00am and he said out of the blue he heard distinctive loud knocks on our kitchen window right next to the den. They were loud and it scared the crap out of him because that window is at least 10ft. off the ground. He even commented to his cousin on the game, something just knocked on my kitchen window, I’m out of here and turned his game and tv off and tore up the steps to his bedroom.

One fourth of July we were shooting fireworks and the kids were small and it was getting dusk and I was sitting in a lawn chair near the garage door which was open and the kids were shooting bottle rockets and sparklers and I started to hear chatter, like small kids off to me left but it was not understandable and sounded like a samurai movie voices but in children’s vocal range and tone and I looked to account for mine and all in sight with my wife and I said do you all hear that? It went on for a couple minutes and stopped. We listened a few minutes and nothing and the kids started shooting their fireworks again and after a few minutes I heard it again and my oldest son who was eight or nine said I hear it Dad, its kids jabbering and we all stopped except it was a little further back to our left. Again we stopped and listened and heard it a couple times and it stopped.

The kids started up shooting fireworks again and this time we heard it again, me, son, wife and daughter and it was loud and from the back yard and we all stopped and walked around there and I said to my wife, could some kids be lost maybe we were still hearing the jabbering and I hollered hey are you guys lost? Come this direction and we will call the police and get you home. A few jabbers and silence and we just stood there a few minutes. We heard it again and I said to my wife, if it is lost kids they are more likely to come to a woman that a strange man, go about half way down in the yard but not in the wood line and you holler and she called out and we got a lot of jabbering and then dead silence, not another sound. We went on inside after waiting a while and listened to the radio the next day in case there was a story of lost children, but nothing.

We got a couple of dogs about ten years ago and almost nothing has happened since then except the wood knocks on my wife’s walks. We have seen fox, coons, bobcats, mt. lions, bears, skunks, turkey, deer, bears, owls, even a pig and a cow that got loose from people miles and miles away and ended up in our yard but we have no clue what these events were caused by, but they are very strange.

Lol! I wish I knew what caused these events. Since the dogs things really have settled down. We have an invisible barrier collar system for them so that helps keep them from running off and they stay in their territory, confined to our yard. They are getting up in years and the kids have moved or will be moving out in the next few years so we probably won’t get another dog when these two die and I am wondering if things will kick up again. Will have to wait and see.
