“I think if patients nearby hadn’t needed care right away, we would have talked to him longer,”
First, I will do no harm...................oh, wait............
Suicide by cop.
Whoa Nellie! That was an education. Lots of people wasted out of their minds, serious trauma being mostly ignored like it was nothing, etc. One guy got up, fell over drunk and a giant knife fell out of his pocket. My mom decide to find another hospital.
well, bye
My nephew is an RN, used to work in the ER. He was injured several times by patients who were mentally unbalanced, on drugs (or both). Had his shoulder dislocated, had rib injuries, etc. He saved lives in the ER but it could be rough dealing with patients.
He’s in an admin job now and I kind of wish he was still working with patients because he was in his element and very good at his job. In spite of the crazy patients, he had others return to thank him for saving their lives and even had his picture taken with a few. I guess you can only take so much though, and the huge pay raise he got for moving behind a desk didn’t hurt either.

An earlier posting if anyone cares to scan the comments there on.
Our hospital pays an off duty policeman to be at our ER every hour of every day.
Its a huge expense. And we are not even a trauma hospital. THOSE guys have more gang retribution stuff going on in their Emergency Department.
The US cities have become third world countries.
I know that hospital and have been in its emergency room with family several times over the years. It is the hospital that treated and saved many of the Pulse nightclub shooting victims and usually provides treatment for Orlando’s slums. In short, if any Orlando hospital is ready to deal with a dangerous patient, it is ORMC.
Exactly what "threatening" movements did he make that caused a police officer to fire his weapon and kill this man? The officer could not have seen a firearm as no weapon was found. How exactly did this man pose life threatening danger to the police or anyone else without a weapon?
I guess in a nutshell the American public is now ok with simple "gestures" or "threatening" movements being justification for LETHAL FORCE.
This is insane. The police are now judge, jury and executioner and they are just glancing over the first two. What worries me more than the actions of the police is the fact that so many people think this is ok.
Never admit yourself into hospital emergency without bringing witnesses.
