The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.
From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed any time-and don't have to be about gardening.
M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-U-S-E!
of course we remember JRandonFreeper...God rest his soul..
We made it home in one piece from sunny Florida. Had a couple close calls on the road.
Caught a rock thrown by a hiway mower south of Hattiesburg on the way down. It busted the windshield and sprayed glass chips all over the inside of Mrs. Augie’s RAV4. Sounded like a bomb went off in the car when it hit us. Tried to schedule SafeLite to replace it while we were in Pensacola, but they sent the guy to Panama City. Then once they got it straight where we were they sent the wrong windshield. By that time it was too late to get it done before we had to head back. Local glass shop went to Mrs. Augie’s workplace this morning with the right part and installed it in the parking lot.
Successfully dodged a loose trailer wheel that came from the opposite side of the interstate going through Wentzville on the way home. The guy two cars in front of us ate it in his grille, then it went under his car and flew out the back side. I was paying attention and saw it fly over the jersey barrier so was able to avoid the tire and all of the other vehicles who were shucking and jiving trying to miss all of the shredded parts that came off the car that hit it.
Vacation was great, but it’s nice to be home. Going back to work on Thursday so I can get some rest.
The garden is pretty much kaput at this point. Okra is still going nuts, but the tomatoes are shot.
I uploaded pond work photos to tinypic this morning. I’ll post those on the next thread.
Glad you made it safely home. Look forward to your pics @ next post.
Wow! Thanks for posting. A woman who used to work for me was into Bonsai, but she mainly used typical houseplants for her ‘pieces.’
Such a neat hobby/passion! :)
I Had another spirea many years ago that was glorious, I’ll go back and see if I still have a picture. I also have a project I did in my hobby barn last year you may be interested un for your greenhouse. I’m gettin’ it together!
Very smart! Thanks!
Next project is getting the rest of the metal roof installed on the house. With all of the rain we’ve had (and ANOTHER 5-7” on its way this week, AARRGH!) I was DELIGHTED to tell Beau that there is a leak in the ceiling at the top of the stairs!
He said, ‘Well, I guess I HAVE been living on borrowed time.’
Yeah? No chit, Sherlock, LOL! This roofing project is in YEAR SEVEN!
Again, I choose my battles. I can go live quite happily in my Greenhouse, LOL!
Likewise in my barn. BTW I turn always turned the water off for the winter going down to the barn and we would carry the water for the goats. The line is buried but not that deep. I just finished a 3 week project refinishing my mom’s sewing machine cabinet down in the barn and I used that sink every day. When I was younger they used to call me the “queen of juryrig”. We have had so much rain too. Our creek is roaring. Not much left in the garden but some beautiful Italian parsley which keeps growing, and a little broccoli and some peppers. I’ve dried a huge batch of parsley already and filled up a pint canning jar with a shaker top. Looks like I can do that again easy. Hope the roof project keeps moving along.
