It may cost a Democrat vote. He will get a few. What if someone is reminded of the connection, that puts them on the spot. It will not win any Republican votes so why do it. No upside except the reminder insult.

It's not going to cost Kavanaugh any democrat votes. They were all going to vote against him anyway, so, no change, no matter what. You can't lose what you never had.
What if someone is reminded of the connection, that puts them on the spot. It will not win any Republican votes so why do it.
If the vote for confirmation is done, republicans will still vote the way they were going to a few weeks ago. It's only the RINOs who might vote against, but then, that was also expected a few weeks ago. Kavanaugh might still get 50/50 and the VP would break the tie.
