Sailors being sailors. Shore Patrol was seldom dull. It pissed me off to no end when I had to stand inspection and got gigged when my dress blues didn’t pass after a night of Shore Patrol. SP was never a tea party.

They’re sailors! Sailors get into trouble when they hit port. People who have never done time in a warship can sit back and proclaim, “Well, I NEVER!!” but sailors are gonna be sailors.

Brawling is one thing. But public urination?! Ick.
I’m still wondering what set this off. If someone made a crack about the boat. If so, there are some issues that really need to be addressed since this is about more than just boorish behavior.

Yes, it is boorish behavior. I’ve worked with RN sailors before and they are very professional when they are on the ship. They really impressed me.
But, when they get off the ship, they do blow off steam in a very spectacular way. “Boorish” is an understatement. But, like all sailors, we truly do not care what the non-sailors think about us. I applaud my British brothers for reminding me of what’s great about being a sailor!!

most have no idea what a funnel is for why a ship would need one - certainly most reporters would not have the foggiest. But every one expects a carrier to have planes ... else what good is it, other that to transport men to other shores to get drunk and into fights?
“tackled by a female police officer...” First, I’m shocked they could find a female cop willing to get into that sort of action. Second, we are depending on these guys as allies when a woman can tackle them? BTW, are drunken sailors expected to behave in Britain?

I guess with the all the cutbacks to HMR Navy, “Rum, Sodomy and the Lash” has been cut back to just rum. :P
