I’m just an upland game bird hunter that walks up to 10 miles in thick brush hopefully having a few birds flush. My experince with bear hunters is exclusively negative. They bait these animals with sweets then use GpS tagged hounds to chase the animals up a tree where its shot. In my mind , bear hunting is not hunting.
Depends on the state. Using bait and dogs for bear hunting in Montana, Oregon, Washington and parts of Wyoming is illegal, there’s probably others too.
I am sure the grizzly hunt well be a spot and stalk adventure.
Some black bears are hunted with hounds and or bait. Don’t like it, don’t hunt there. Vote with your pocket book. The laws of each state dictate how when and where critters can be hunted and taken. If one thinks certain methods are not acceptable or even ethical for them, but whereas the people of a state deems it a traditional accepted way of pursuit, so be it.
Most blacks and probably all brown bears are hunted by spot and stalk methods or, in the case of woods hunting in timber, via “a la cart”- being in the right place at the right time when a bear walks by. Recently my older brother shot a 375 lb black boar in Broome county NY, he was in a ground blind deer hunting with his Savage 99 in 250, 87 grn Nosler, one shot stop at 23 yards, he’s like that. Me, I hunt bears with my 416 Rigby.
