Denver mom says her 9-year-old son died by suicide in their home on Thursday after experiencing bullying in school. She is now sharing the story in hopes of shining a light on bullying and suicide, KDVR reports.
Leia Pierce says bullying was a factor in the death of her son, Jamel Myles, who started fourth grade just last week. Over the summer, Jamel came out to his mother as gay, she said. "(H)e looked so scared when he told me. He was like, 'Mom I'm gay.' And I thought he was playing, so I looked back because I was driving, and he was all curled up, so scared. And I said, I still love you," Pierce told the station.
Jamel wanted to tell his classmates at Joe Shoemaker Elementary School. "He went to school and said he was going tell people he's gay because he's proud of himself," the mother said.
She said when her son came out, he also opened up about wanting to dress more femininely. Pierce said her son told her, "I know you buy me boy stuff because I'm a boy, but I'd rather dress like a girl."
Just four days after starting school last week and coming out to his classmates, Jamel took his own life. Pierce told KDVR that bullying was a factor.

A 9 year old would NOT know if he is gay..that is something the mother planted into his head..I wonder if this poor child was molested, poor kid may he RIP
Incredibly important as a parent to make sure that YOUR KIDS are NOT bullying others.
And also super important to look for warning signs that your kids are being bullied.
My son had inexplicable bruises on his body. After literally screaming at him, he confessed that a kid at school had been kicking him.
The school covered it all up and tried to ignore me, but I made a big stink about it.
But, first responsibility is to make damn sure YOUR KIDS aren’t making anyone miserable.

Worst is from 4th to 9th grade. Kids mature a great deal once they hit highschool, but that in between period is really bad. Was for me, and my 4 kids have all dealt with this stuff. A suicide at Jr High here from a gal with no hair, was taunted for it.... Argh, makes me mad...
Mom’s fault. She should have taken him to a shrink, got him help for his alleged homosexuality.
I feel terrible for this young boy. But no 9 year old is capable of determining that he is gay. No 9 year old is capable of determining he is straight, either - pre-pubescent children don’t have sexual urges, though some adults insist on taking the babblings of children as justification for treating them as gay.

Not likely a nine year old even knows what gay means.
Apparently mom was encouraging the kid to act on his mental illness. I don’t see any reference to a dad. They don’t say how he killed himself. They dont even describe any alleged bullying. There’s a lot to this story that is being left out.
Maybe if she'd sat him down and told him that he was just a gullible moron who didn't even understand what being a homo meant, he would still be alive. But then she couldn't pretend to be a martyr and the media would have to find some other "victim" to lie about.
Another article said his mom found his unresponsive body and the coroner ruled it a suicide. But it doesn’t say how he killed himself. I have a hard time buying this. I suspect there is more to this and the mom is involved. Jmo

How much did he learn about being gay and from who?
Might never know how rough the response were from other kids.
No way a 9 year old knows anything like that. His ‘discovery’ was the direct result of entertainment media and public school indoctrination.

As I recall, girls were still pretty icky until around 6th grade. Coming out as gay in fourth grade? What the heck is wrong with parents?
Pathetic that this little kid would not be taken to help for his “gayness.” Just an outrage. No nine year old is a homosexual unless perhaps he was being molested. Something really stinks in the case of this little guy.
