In the run-up to marriage, many couples, particularly those of a more progressive bent, will encounter a problem: What is to be done about the last name?
Some have attempted work-arounds: the Smiths and Taylors who have become Smith-Taylors, Taylor-Smiths, ormore creativeSmilors. But there just isnt always a good, fair option. (While many straight couples fall back on the option of a woman taking her husbands last name, same-sex couples have no analogous default.)

Because nobody wants to be like Donny Hendrix.
Why don’t more LEfties OD?
There’s something to be said for taking the best name. Who wants to be a Sammenfink when you can be a Barrett?
Because we aren’t pussies.
There are way too many cupcakes in this world if they agree to take their wife’s last name. It’s also an insult to your family as a man to change your name as you are in charge of carrying that name on through your family tree.
Then again, if progressives want to show they are bigger patsies than we think they are, by all means, let them do so. Just proves the point easier.
Same reason more husbands do NOT wear pussyhats. Too busy getting the job done.
My first thought.
Used to be that there were no family names, and what is perceived as a last name by us was actually the name of the father, with “son of” either preceding or following that name. Still done that way in Iceland.
Decisions, decisions...For a male: keep your father’s last name or take the last name of your father-in-law.
For a female: take the man’s name you marry or keep your father’s name.
Which MAN’S name do you want?
I don’t recognize fake homo unions.
Because the man’s job is to LEAD, not be dominated.
We had a young man do this in our Church recently. His wife is a wonderful young lady who is from a wonderful family. Dad is a extremely nice, retired Brig. General from the Army, Mom is just one of God’s gifts to humanity...both the kind of folks you are glad to have in your life.
While I would not call the young man an ‘Alpha’, he seems like a very nice guy, he loves his wife dearly, and I think he just wanted to be part of their family.
I know nothing of his family life.
idiotic
Thank you for saying it.
I have no problem with women who keep their original last name, especially if she uses that name to make money. People with hyphens and spaces in their names are a pain in the a**. Which last name do you use? The Mexicans use the “first” last name and the feminazis use the “second” last name. Which name are you using today? I would never, ever take a trip on airplanes or cross international borders with anybody who has multiple identities.
This is the kind of sht that first world libtards lose sleep over.....
Because they don’t want endless jokes from their friends.
The only guy I know who did this was a Japanese guy. There were no male children in his wife’s family, so he took their name in order to continue their family name. Surely a noble gesture, but not common in the west.
Probably because they aren't really married, no matter what some sad bureaucrat paper pusher hands them.
