Actor. Born Gwyllyn Samuel Newton Ford in Canada, when he was eight years old his father, a railroad executive, moved his family to Santa Monica, California. He performed in high school plays and then joined "West Coast", a traveling theater company. His film debut was in "Heaven With a Barbed Wire Fence" (1939). After World War II started, he put his career on hold and enlisted in the United States Marines. In 1992, Ford was awarded the French Legion of Honor Medal for his service in France during the war aiding those fleeing from the Nazis. He also served in Vietnam as a member of the United States Naval Reserves

If he was a Marine in France he was almost certainly in the OSS. Almost all “regular” Marines were in the Pacific, China or stateside.
He “Could” have been a landing craft operator. Not saying that’s a fact, but they did participate.
Doubtful. That’s almost always a Navy/Coast Guard position, not Marine Corps. Matter of fact, the only Coast Guardsman ever awarded the Medal of Honor was a landing craft operator.

My grandfathers middle name was Marion. I didnt know his first name until I was in my teens.

I remember an old interview he did in the late ‘70s.
He said that his Father would NOT let him have a car until he was able to take it completely apart, and put it back together in working order.
I have no idea if it was true or made up, but I remember that interview quite accurately.
