Good stuff!

I had a list of us at one time. Might still be buried in my FReepmail somewhere.

Now wait just a minute!

FR has been around since, at least, 1969. And I have the proof that I was posting on the site at that time.
Just look at the time stamp on these posts. ;^)

1969 FR

Actually, it was : Bill Clinton, we have you surrounded. Drop the cigar, step away from the intern, and come out with your pants up.

Great video, I met some of these Freepers at the October 31, 1998 "March for Justice."

That was when I took my kids out of school for a day and led a Freeper convoy from Lexington, MA (first shot of the Revolutionary War) all the way to Washington D.C. where we stayed at the Hotel Excelsior. The event took place the next day (Saturday) which was also Halloween. We met Matt Drudge in person as well as other notables. Jim Robinson was there in person as well.

It was a very warm day for that time of year and afterwards, my family and I walked around the reflecting pool and saw the sunset form the Lincoln Memorial. The kids were a little bummed they missed Halloween but before driving home on Sunday, we let them buy about 10 pounds of candy at the CVS (which was marked down considerably).

Here is a history of Freerepublic as written by James Robinson in the Los Angeles Times v. Free Republic lawsuit.
Interesting times back then when FR was in its infancy.

My memory about Toilet Man is that he came onto the site when the Robinsons had gone to Washington DC. Hit that time I don’t think we really had moderators so Jim just left the site to run on its own. While they were in Washington people were posting and toilet man came in and figured out how to turn the font all white which isn’t hard to do and didn’t turn it off. So most of the posters didn’t really understand what was going on but nobody could read any of the comments because all the font was the same color as the background. Plus he was making comments so that only you could see his. And then turning the font back to White when he was done but most of the people didn’t really understand HTML so he got away with it. I actually was laughing the head off the whole time

I think I found free republic through drudge report. I had a HP desktop with a dial up modem. Slow as all get out! I didn’t join til about when Elian Gonzalez was sent back to Cuba.

Mostly lurk, but realized early on I was reading things on FR that wouldn’t be broadcast on the news for another day or two. That is still the case today.

As far as former Freepers, I always admired Registered and his graphics. ‘SoreLoserman’ went mainstream during the recounts for Bush and Gore.

My first freep was a bookstore in Shaker Heights, Ohio where HRC was pushing It Takes a Village. I met Commontator and DollyCali there. I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting LS. He did an awesome presentation at our local 9-12 group years ago.

My favorite Dr. Raoul skit was when he was dressed as Satan (he painted his whole head, hands, face and neck bright red), and was walking around Lafayette Park across from the White House with a big sign that said:

“Bill Clinton married my sister!”

I was recently reminded by a very early Freeper that Jim Rob organized a group in October 1998 that went to the DC Mall and demanded Clinton be impeached. Without that demonstration, some say the impeachment would never have happened.
