A few minutes ago LO'D MSNBC (10pm EST) playing a clip of Jeff Flake on ABC This Week (Sunday) saying he will block a Trump judicial nominee until he gets a Senate vote on Tariffs.
Suggesting that Flake playing a McCain could give cover to vulnerable Senate Dems to ALL vote against a Trump SCOTUS nominee.
Just mentioned Bork being Defeated.
flake hasn’t got the balls.
Start impeachment proceedings on Flake today for leverage.
huh?
“Suggesting that Flake playing a McCain could give cover to vulnerable Senate Dems to ALL vote against a Trump SCOTUS nominee.”
We can expect Flake to vote with the Democrats and McCain to not vote.
And for this vote, that will make Joe Manchin the most powerful man in the Senate.
Flake is a hateful SOB. As low as they come.
Jeff Flake, I think, has aspirations to try to primary Trump in 2020. He plays this “principled conservative alternative” shtick up. He’ll have a tougher time selling that since the far left has embraced him as their great white hope to stop a conservative from getting on the SCOTUS. I mean, how do you sell people that you’re a conservative when only communists like you?
PDJT should nominate Flake. Then watch nuclear liberal head explosions.
What a jerk.
I would speculate McCaskill in MO might have to pretend to be moderate and vote for the nominee. There may be several.
. ..I don’t think that Flake’s actual vote on the nomination, if he ever got one, is what this is about.
I think this is about the little clubby, fraternity rule in the Senate that any Senator can hold up a judicial nomination as a matter of “privilege”.
McConnell has threatened to ignore that rule several times but he’s spineless and I don’t see it happening. So, as things stand at this moment, Flake can and likely will hold up the nomination.
McConnell is going to drop the MOAB and RINOs like Flake will fall in line.
Pay no attention to Flake. He's bloviating to save face to his donors and to get his gig on K Street. But in the end, he's going to vote for Trump's SCOTUS nominee.
Flake is neither principled or conservative. He is truly a democrat and a rather rabid one at times. At other times he plays the moderate but in his heart he is as rabid as Mad Maxine.
When it comes to something as important as the SC, the GOP Senate won’t divide, even guys like Flake.
In the end, it doesn’t really matter. If Flake sinks the nominee, he’ll need EVERY Democrat to go with him, including the ones who are facing defeat in Red States even without this coming up. These are the Democrats who MUST appear as ‘moderate’ to win (even though they’re not, of course).
Bottom line - the Dems, if they can block the nominee, will lose 4 or 5 seats in November, and Trump will simply re-nominate him - and he sails through.
Do much pressure will be put on him not to.
All Dems have is Flake and Fluke
Agreed. Plus I don’t think McCain will be around for the vote and a new Senator will be put in place.
When dealing with butthurt, vindictive bastards like Flake, that's a legitimate course to take. He's threatened to singlehandedly thwart the will of 67 million voters due to butthurt inflicted by Trump.
The liberal talking heads would have a kool-aid party if you put them all in one place.
