Now millennials can add bad tippers to the roster of negative stereotypes theyre associated with.
According to a new study from creditcards.com, 10% of millennials do not tip at all when eating out. In contrast, only 3% of the older generations dont tip.
Even when millennials do tip, the study found that the median gratuity is just 15%. This is under the national average, and significantly less than Gen-X, baby boomers, and the Silent Generation, all of whom leave a median tip of between 18 and 20%.
The same attitude applies to tipping those who provide services, such as Uber or Lyft drivers: 18% of millennials dont tip them, even when provided with an option to do so. Nevertheless, close to 27% of the millennials surveyed suggested that they would prefer having a service charge included in items, thereby paying higher prices, and then doing away with tips.

There is a difference between knowledge and wisdom. the Internet provides knowledge at your fingertips, but wisdom must be taught, and it isn’t.
I’m with the Millennials here, at least for places with a $15 minimum wage - the tip is INCLUDED in their wages.
And most of the world doesn’t even tip...or tips very little.
Cause they don’t have much money left after all the new “gotta have” phones, games, etc!
Not surprising given that during the Obama economy, they were lucky to get Barista jobs at Starbucks. The hopey changey thing didn’t work out so well for them - nor did degrees in gender studies.
They have no money!
Tips? Most of them have no little or no money. And in states like CA, most will never be buying big ticket stuff, like homes and all the expensive stuff that goes along with that...
Clue- They can’t do the math. LOL
I have my places to eat and have cultivated great service by rewarding my regular servers with well above average tips.
It pays.
However, I have run into unfamiliar servers, at times that believe that they don’t need to write down my order, that they can remember my order just by listening to me give the order, all the while smile f#%$&ng me.
Inevitably, they usually get most of the order wrong.
Tip?
Zip.
It’s an educational tool.
I’ve got a demographic that has millennials beat at being deadbeats: native Americans AKA Indians.
Millennials also provide poor customer service in general. Generation Z is worse because they openly show in their demeanor, words, and attitudes, that they actually resent customers at their places of employment.
Sign of the times and of impending doom I think.
On the other hand, I think a lot of millennials, along with Generations X, Y, and Z, are looking for meaning and are open to learning and following leadership if good people step up and lead. Otherwise there is a dangerous vacuum that will be filled with something.
A lot of them know they’re being lied to by the media. In spite of trying to dumb down society and implement ubiquitous mind-control, a lot of young people are too smart to buy into the big lie.
Tipping is a bad practice that need to die. It is now an expectation, rather than a privilege, to receive a tip, and the incentive to provide good service is lost. It is not fair to shake down people in such a manner, and the US would do well to abandon the entire scheme.
For sure. Knowledge is awareness of things as they are; wisdom is apprehending what to do about it.
You take your kids out to eat and teach them how. They dont know how otherwise.
I was a bartender for six years and generally consider myself a good tipper. For good service I usually tip between 20-25%. I have also found that bartenders and waitresses are among the most generous tippers.
They probably FEEL that THEY should be tipped for gracing the establishment with their highly esteemed presence.
The millennials are the first American generation when more than half of the generation were born out of wedlock making them b@st@rds. No we find out they are cheap ones too.
Hey! Tattoos and piercings are expensive, must-haves for them.
What about Black Millennials?
My late B-I-L was in the Restaurant Industry for years. He told me his Black Customers were the worst Tippers as well as being very demanding and high maintenance.
The only other Customers who came close were old White Women who carried coin purses. LOL
Go ahead and quit tipping and ill keep tipping far more than average and we will see who gets the best service
Personally i think tipping is the best way to encourage good service and frankly appreciate the priority seating and favorable treatment i get at our regular places
