I would like to present the idea that society will never be able to afford these lifelong professional teachers. Research has shown that teachers usually become proficient in their teaching after 3 years. Maybe teachers should move on to different, higher paying professions after 6-10 years instead of sucking up money from the taxpayers for lifelong careers and pensions that are almost what they made in their last 2-3 highest paying salaries. Teach for America teachers often get hired by major corporations after their teaching stint. Perhaps municipalities should not be forced to pay for this. I don’t hold the sacred view of teachers that many people do, because I homeschooled my children and know that education is accomplished in many ways. My children have graduate degrees and are highly employed.

I beg to differ.... I know many teachers who have placed children in the classroom above themselves. Unfortunately the best teachers who understand their students leave the profession because they are forced to jump through too many political hoops. Not all teachers crave $$ - they mostly want support for resources. But a raise in pay is helpful.
