She had a Medical Condition and was Fired for it, clearly her “sickness or disease” is covered.
It might also qualify as Senior Abuse for the intentional infliction of emotional distress.
If so then they would have used this opportunity to fire Roseanne rather than cancelling the show.
People were tuning in to Roseanne to vote their approval of Donald Trump and protest the unfair anti Trump/ anti MAGA media bias they were seeing virtually every other show on every network.
Are sitcom viewers really that political?
The number who wanted a nostalgic return of an old series or who wanted to see a Middle American family again may have outweighed those who had a political motivation.
Some viewers are that political , but many are simply voting with their feet (or remote controls) to watch a show that has a positive view of America as opposed to the leftist propaganda garbage that is being forced on them by the TV content providers.
They could turn it into a “Reality Show” where the family has to rescue Rosanne from a Gulag somewhere.

Too bad there is no real brave network or cable channel willing to take a chance. Even Hulu pulled the reruns and all the oldie channels pulled the original reruns. Money to be made but they all cower in fear if they continue.

If the fans of Roseanne feel they're being played by liberal SJWs, they will walk away from any recast without Roseanne Barr. She's becoming OUR Colin Kaepernick.
There are three ways out of this:
1. Status Quo. Roseanne, as a show is over, and Barr as a comedienne can join Michael Richards in exile.
2. Barr can go on a counter-offensive and try to convince ABC that she was a victim of uncontrollable side-effects of taking Ambien. The company that makes Ambien has already weighed in, but there is a body of testimonials, including Democrat Congressman Patrick Kennedy (who got a pass), that suggests that people do behave atypically in some cases. Any compromise that restores Roseanne would have to include some type of personal monitoring of Barr, possibly including random drug tests (punitively, of course), but she might be willing to endure this to support those on the show who need the job.
3. The show tries to go on without the eponymous Barr, in which case the pro-Trump fan base will give ABC the NFL treatment.
It's in the best interests of everyone involved to try to make option #2 work.
