My aunt died of Alzheimers. It’s the worst. Emotionally it took its toll on me too when it was my turn to take care of her. Not only will your memory fail you, the patient will also violently turn as well. That’s why I took a Nurse Aide’s course years ago to prep for it..
There are many forms of Alzheimers dementia. While some people do get very aggressive, some dont. Some can be medicated to take the edge off their terrible irritability and confusion. It is a mercy to take away someones irrational anger for which they can do nothing. Two of my moms meds are to help her stay on an even emotional keel and she is lively and not drugged out. Its best to try because there is no recovery or getting better. I dont understand some who say they dont want to ever drug their family member. If I was obsessed over one branch on a tree or one drawer of socks, and kept railing about it, please drug me. Mom enjoys her books and tv and doesnt seem drugged.
