Probably a good reason they are out of touch and can’t seem to actually represent the people.
Yes, executive veto of legislative bills was a huge deal.
IIRC, by 1776, English monarchs had not vetoed a Parliamentary bill since the 1688 Glorious Revolution.
OTOH, colonial legislative bills were regularly vetoed.
Our contest with George III began with the rights of Englishmen.
So, despite the bad taste left over from our colonial experience, this new executive to history, a president, was empowered with a limited veto.
Compare the limited exec veto to the absolute judicial veto.

Thanks iowamark. First in war, first in peace, and first to exercise a Presidential veto. Grover Cleveland held the record for most vetoes cast -- until FDR, if memory serves.
