The U.S. electric grid has become increasingly vulnerable to what the federal government is describing as an unprecedented wave of attacks that threatens to cripple the nation, according to a new investigative report that warns the energy industry is lagging in efforts to boost physical security of these critical sites.
Amid a wave of increasing attacks across the country on key power stations, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation, or NERC, has been struggling to force the power industry to enact a series of security improvements meant to stop would-be attackers and terrorists from crippling the nation's infrastructure.
Since 2014, "security risks to the power grid have become an even greater concern in the electric utility industry," according to a new Congressional Research Service report that warns the power industry "has not necessarily reached the level of physical security needed based on the sector's own assessments of risk."

Yeah, and not only that, but we have people living in their own fecal matter in tent cities. Imagine all the diseases that would happen if the power was lost and the sewer and water pumping stations stop working properly?
Let me guess, they want a LOT of my money and more centralized control?

A regulated utility will only do what it’s compelled to do.
Nothing more.
If we lose our power due to cyber attacks, we can blame our own governance.
And, hopefully, exact justice for it as the impact would likely kill several millions.
By whom? the FB”I”, the clowns, MI-6?
Did they run out of children? or just trying to distract?
When it happens, and its going to happen, the new currency will be the Calorie.

Calories, and transparent water.
Not to mention new meat being harvested.
Sounds serious.
Give me a ping me if the internet goes down.
Just make sure it’s “thoroughly cooked”.
Been concerned about this for a long time. While ago, replied to survey from Trump campaign and another from some Republican re important issues...this was high on list.

The article said terrorists or rogue actors. That covers the FB”I”
Here’s an idea:
Divert the $500 million from butchering and killing human babies at Planned Parenthood, and use that to fix the grid problem.
We’ve known about the vulnerabilities for years now. There is NO reason we should be at risk at this time. Unless, of course, that’s the way the power-that-be always wanted it.
I’m understanding that because the latest bill was an ‘omnibus’, monies can be redirected as the President sees fit, particularly it is for “national security”.
I would say the viability of the electric grid is every bit as necessary as a wall - if not more so. What say you, Mr. President?
So, another rifle attack in 2016.
This is probably good. These sort of incremental attacks lead to a gradual hardening of the system, making a single, catastrophic, national attack much harder.
