Stephen Hawking won accolades from his peers for having one of the most brilliant minds in science, but he never got a Nobel Prize because no one has yet proven his ideas.
The Nobel committee looks for proof, not big ideas. Hawking was a deep thinker — a theorist — and his musings about black holes and cosmology have yet to get the lockdown evidence that accompanies the physics prizes, his fellow scientists said.

OTOH Hawking radiation is needed to reconcile QM, general relativity and thermodynamics in the vicinity of a black hole, and if any two of the above had been correctly hypothesized by an alien civilization, the third would be implied by Hawking radiation.
Not fawning Hawking here (for reasons I’m not going into), but on the basis of Zero’s Nobel Peace Prize Hawking should have had many.

Perhaps for their Physics prize, but obviously not for their Peace Prize, obviously.
I wonder if the AP ever considered that his "big ideas" may not be provable? Hawkins certainly deserves credit for living an extraordinary life with a terrible disease. That doesn't make him infallible. He had a number of goofy ideas, too. One was "we have only a hundred years to leave earth, or we will face extinction".
Ridiculously overrated physicist. Minor contributions compared to others. Disgusting personal character. I won’t miss Hawking.

However, the Noble Peace Prize can be given to a community organizer in office for a couple of months who has no proof of any achievement.
The “Nobel Prize for Peace” is awarded by an entirely different organization from the Nobel Prizes for science.
Of course it is. But you would think they would want some results.
Sadly, Hawking's basic theory was flawed. Had he postulated that Black Holes were superior in all ways to White Holes, proof acceptable to the Nobel Committee would have been available within minutes.
A further corollary that White Holes were the radiating source of all Evil in the Universe would have garnered an immediate second award.
The fault is Hawking's as he obviously didn't know how the Universe works.
Barry Benghazi promoted leftism and severely damaged these United States. He did exactly what the Nobel Prize for Peace people want.
The science prizes are really not related to the spurious “Peace” prizes, except by the name “Nobel”....
It is not one “Nobel committee” but a different committee for each prize, and the science committees have remained fairly rigorous, in contrast to the committees for Peace and for Literature.
I’ve never been a fan of scientists for that exact reason. They can’t prove it.
