We have several species of them in S. MS - a few took a liking to the cedar trim on the house so I had to replace a few sections and hang shiny tings that wave in the breeze to discourage them...

I think ‘birding’ is in the genes. My mom could easily identify birds’ nests and eggs. All my adult kids have feeders up and binoculars ready.
Years ago, I thought I spotted an ivory billed woodpecker and called some ornithology group to report it. From my description of flight pattern and markings they believed it was an ‘ivory billed’ and not a pileated.
I’m very important;) LOL!!!!!!!

When younger i too saw the ivory billed woodpecker they say have been extinct for a while... i still believe in the Big Thicket area of East Texas into the Sabine River West Louisiana area where you may go in and not come out, they’re still in there.

they're more of a broiler. If the game warden catches you he'll be upset cause he likes 'em baked.

Ok, I just learned something.
There’s a tree in our frontyard that I found a healthy layer of wood chips around. I thought it was because some large limbs were rubbing together (you could hear it). Apparently, I guess we have a new lodger. (Never heard any pecking though.)

Which is worse, the woodpeckers attracted to the cedar wood or the Democrats attracted to the shiny things?
