Um, we've had electronic bank deposits and auto-pay for at least 20 years now.
My property taxes come right out of my mortgage payments, which are withdrawn automatically each month, paid for with my salary that is electronically deposited twice each month. If he had a monthly pension and nobody knew he was dead, there's no reason he'd miss any payments on anything. Neighbors might start complaining of his unkempt lawn.
SS is going to want that money back.
It's 2018. What's a check? You can set up bill paying automatically, and have been able to do so for the past 20 years. He probably didn't file tax returns. Lots of people don't. IRS doesn't care unless you owe them money.
In some states, if you attain a certain age, you are exempt from property taxes.
It's an old house, and I have no idea if someone lives there.
It still has an old fuel oil tank, which is odd, since it is in a residential area, NOT rural at all.
But the lawn grows all summer, and once, maybe twice a year, it gets mowed, when it reaches about 2ft. high.
Did he have Social Security? Did anyone cash the checks?
Folks on SS, like me, do not get “checks”. The monthly stipend is automatically deposited into a bank checking/savings account. Saves the govt lots of money as compared to printing a check and mailing the check.
If the SS receptient is having his utility, insurance, property taxes, etc. bills paid by direct debit to his/her/its money account, then there are no unpaid bills.
If the mail is being dropped through a mail slot in the door instead of an outside box, then the mailperson is unaware of the mail recepients demise.
There are some other “if’s ... have to go feed my cats...
Have a deplorable day & life....
Wow, that reply is so accurate to how I feel. I still remember when I was a young girl. My parents were looking at houses. We went to one house in the afternoon. It must have been somewhat in the country because it was so peaceful. There was a note on the door or the gazebo that explained the Realtor had to go to a funeral & wouldn’t be able to be there.
I just remember this otherworldly feeling I had while we were there and it has stayed with me. It was a very melancholy feeling. This was from a long time ago & I still think about it.
I have never had those vibes that you said creeped you out, but if I ever do I will be flying out the door! I will NEVER live somewhere where someone has been murdered.
Thanks, that seems only fair to the buyer. Still sometimes see “sopdoodle” & I crack up. ; )
Sounds like my late brother's girlfriend. My brother was creepy & deviant; the only one willing to live with him was this very weird girl. She kept to herself, avoided everyone, was completely dependent on my brother.
Lucky for her, he left his pension to her -- over a quarter million dollars. If not for him, she would have ended up in the street. She didn't do bad for someone whose sole achievement in life was live with my brother.
Do I envy her for her windfall? No. I struggle financially, but I feel like I've led a meaningful life.
Who doesn’t owe the IRS money unless they are living off of cash buried in the back yar?
I don’t believe the smell of death ever goes away. I have seen houses where the person died in bed and lay there in the heat for days if not weeks. Awful.
I'm talking about people who would normally receive refunds but don't bother filing their income taxes. The IRS doesn't exactly go hunt them down.
It's not a detached house.
It looks to be in some kind of complex, so maybe they had a ground crew to take care of the lawn.
The guy may have worked at the Colonial National Historic Park at some point.
He failed to show up for jury duty last year.
I guess being dead is one way to get out of jury duty.

that’s not the 1/2 of it. Try a few more days and when you arrive the windows are black. Yes black from fly’s. The smell has the capacity to knock you out the front door like a backdraft. Not only that the exploded body with all the maggots is really a gruesome scene.
Same here, life has definitely become something more than money. Not having it tends to make it that way.
Yeaah, my wife will probably inherit his fortune.
I’ll be dead.
I had decided not to be so graphic.
Ugh.....and I just had dinner. I’d take a tent first!
I feel like I should call Coast to Coast....
Ever watch the movie “Beetlejuice”?
