Grammy-winning singer Dennis Edwards, an unmistakable voice during legendary act the Temptations heyday, died Thursday night (Feb. 1) of complications from meningitis, confirms his wife of 18 years, Brenda Edwards.
Mr. Edwards, who lived in Florissant, died in a hospital in Chicago, and had been in and out of hospitals since he was diagnosed May 2017. He would have been 75 on Saturday (Feb. 3).
Mr. Edwards received a Lifetime Achievement Grammy, given to the Temptations, in 2013 that included original Temptations singer Otis Williams and the survivors of the departed members of the group. The Post-Dispatch profiled Edwards at that time.
The Temptations were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989.
The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards performed at the Ambassador June 2016.
In 1985, Mr. Edwards scored a huge solo hit with "Don't Look Any Further."

‘Fee Fie Foe Fum...Look out Baby ‘cuz here I come!’

Edwards replaced David Ruffin, and became the voice of the Temps’ “funk years”.
His finest moment, in my humble opinion.

Yeah! I saw The Temptations live in the early 1970s, great group live but you can’t beat the Motown house band in their recordings.

Drifters? I always thought that was Ben E. King!
PS. THE DRIFTERS ROCKED, BUT THIS THREAD (respectfully) belongs to Dennis Edwards.

Lucky you!
I’m a girl who had an Auntie who was just the right age to fall in love with all of the Motown artists. I can’t even begin to count the hours we spent in her room, furniture pushed aside, rugs rolled up, trying to learn new dance moves and the record player going for hours on end!
Good Times! :)
I learned the dances back then from watching the featured girl dancers on Hullabaloo. Problem is, I think I only learned the girl’s part.
Joey Heatherton?
No, Hullabaloo started later than the time frame in my memory. It must have been Shindig.
Back when music had soul. Thanks for the good times. Rest well.
RIP...fond memories
