Josephine Liang, 25, is part of a growing community of "freegans," people who eat recently discarded food to reduce waste.
Liang used to shop regularly at the supermarket, then found a cheaper alternative by rummaging through bins, a decision that she says has lowered her weekly food bill to just £5 a week. Liang will wait until shops and cafes close, and then go through their bins to see what she can find. She is saving the money to go travelling.

Taking Recycling way too far
She’s eating dumpster food to save money for travel.
Meanwhile, the homeless and the hungry are being deprived, and they eat dumpster food to merely survive.
Does she realize how extremely SELFISH and EXPLOITATIVE she is?/s
The rich ~*#~{ eating food that is needed by street people who cant afford her lifestyle.
Whatever she’s eating, it’s way too much.
no one with any self esteem could live that way for long

Maybe she shouldn't waste her tuition then, and instead spend the money on traveling. When her mind is ready, she can go back to Oxford.

Used to be, restaurants would give unwanted leftovers to the poor in nice civilized containers.
Then the fear of regulators and lawsuits forced restaurants to dispose of unwanted leftovers and so they had to turn people away.
Regulations and fear of lawsuits even causes restaurants to turn away people willing to buy discounted surplus leftovers for their livestock. I used to buy truckloads of expired bread and cookies and such for my animals but then was turned away for such a reason. Finally the bread store decided to do it again but everyone who gets it has to sign a release that it’s not going to be used for human consumption.
So then the dumpsters end up with some amazing stuff in them that attracts the frugal, poor or not.
I knew she’d be criticized, but I misjudged the line of criticism.
Willing to eat spoiled food? there’s a reason why it’s thrown away.
Clearly what she want to do is go traveling and eating trash out of dumpsters in exotic foreign locations. Best of luck to her but she should remember - play stupid games win stupid prizes.
The business requiring the release understands the potential risk of liability. That’s why increasing numbers of business are locking their dumpsters - to limit the risk.
She is “ working for a food waste campaigner”
Oh man
A Masters degree from Oxford and she works as a human garbage disposal
For someone else!

Worried about being “ selfish”?

That set off the SJWs that didn't have to deal with the messes left by their bums.

Yep. I inquired about this at a bakery chain that advertised that their baked goods were always baked on the day of sale. I asked what they did with unsold bakery items at the end of the day, and they said they dumped them. It seemed like such a waste, and I asked why they didn’t just give it away to nursing homes, shelters, etc., and they said exactly what you point out - that they can’t do it for risk of liability.
Play Stupid Games....Indeed.
There are some nasty things in dumpsters, and some of them are invisible and impossible to avoid.
