A teenager in Florida is in a medically induced coma following a horrifying accident on New Years Eve.
Authorities tell WFOR that 14-year-old Layne Chesney suffered third-degree burns across most of her body while roasting marshmallows at a friends house.
My daughter has sustained burns over 95 percent of her body, Leigh Chesney, Laynes mother, told WFOR. She has suffered a lot of disfiguring injuries.
Family members say Layne was roasting marshmallows at a friends house to make smores.
When the flames went out, one of the children or her, I do not know the complete story, accidentally or purposefully, put more gas to the fire, Chesney said. An explosion occurred and she was enveloped in flames.
She was rushed to an area hospital, but family members say they are simply hoping that she will survive.
The only part of her body that was not burned was the bottom of her feet, she said.
Heavenly Father, We pray in the name of Jesus for a miraculous recovery for this little girl. Please give hope and comfort to the family. In Jesus Name, Amen
So terrible.
Burning/burns...can’t imagine anything worse.
Poor poor baby
put more gas to the fire
It's the "more" that really gets me.
Gasoline is good for powering engines. I really wouldn't use it for anything else. It's combustible, you know.
That is an outrageous post.
.
Things may have changed since I left...progress may have been made...but when we'd get in a patient this badly burned we always say (softly) "hopefully,he/she will die quickly".
We'd say that because we knew that it was 99% certain that the patient would die eventually...quickly or slowly.
Also pray the girl doesn't suffer, would be unimaginable pain over most of her body.
I was more concerned they could hurt themselves with the forks or possibly touch the burner, had 2 longish ones; table forks wouldn't be very safe.
I'd often make one or two for myself for a treat ;-). If I had grahams and Hershey's milk chocolate. And of course nothing but Kraft original marshmallows.
Dying quickly would be all I’d be hoping for in this situation too.
Whynt you shut the hell up on this thread
I was thinking the same thing. It would be a blessing for the poor girl.
Amen. Saw in southern town, a man at a gas station pumping gas into a red container on the bed of his pickup. While SMOKING. I left my car and went into the building. God looked after him that day.
At 95% death is 100% IIRC
Poor child, poor family.
I feel her pain; I too was a burn victim [long ago], and it was over 33% of my body. The only thing I cared about during the ordeal, was my next shot of morphine.
Superb USAF doctors who cared for me, had much experience treated napalm victims in ‘Nam. God Bless them and their expertise. And the Gray Ladies with endless kindness and patience. It took 4 hours to change the bandages, every two days. Excruciating.
This child has a long, long road ahead of her; and the scars will be with her forever.
She and her family are in my fervent prayers.
Being a full fledged jerk today, I see.
I use lighter fluid for the charcoal grill or sometimes paint thinner to start a fire quickly. Never gasoline.
So sad.
Lord, please remember this poor girl, Layne Chesney. Amen
Oh, so that couldn't happen in a small Northern town?
