Do you take a knee for the national anthem like the NFL players you support?

Great rationalization. The real point is that right now, right in front of all of us, our flag and our anthem are being insulted. The leadership of the teams and the NFL don’t care as long as their money is rolling in.

We have only two choices: keep supporting this corrupt, unpatriotic organization or stand against them and stand up for our country.

Are you really so addicted to watching other men run around on a field in multicolored tights that you can’t stand up for our country?

Chainmail, I don’t think it is rationalization at all. I believe in trying to be as consistent as I can. I don’t like the incivility I see here, and I think it is unwarranted and completely unjustified. That is the main issue I have. I believe these things are personal decisions.

The NFL in its entire history up to now has given no money to any organization more controversial than the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Do you do business with any of these companies? (note this is not comprehensive, Chainmail, it is only the top twenty donors to The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation)

*Microsoft
*Apple
*Exxon Mobile (Exxon Mobile gave over $269 million in 2014)
*GE
*Soros Fund Management
*GAP
*State Street
*Car Max
*Johnson & Johnson
*Boeing
*Chevron
*Disney
*Google
*The Home Depot
*JP Morgan
*Merck
*Starbucks
*State Farm
*Verizon

************************************************
If you patronize ANY of the vendors above, you are providing direct financial support (not a symbolic kneeling on television) to the following organizations:

*World Health Organization
*The Global Fund to Fight AIDS
*United States Fund for UNICEF
*International Bank for Reconstruction and Development
*UNICEF Headquarters
*Clinton Health Access Initiative Inc
*International Development Association
*CARE
*World Health Organization Nigeria Country Office
*Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa
*United Nations Foundation
*Population Services International

************************************************

I don’t think I am guilty of rationalization. I think I am guilty of keeping things in perspective.

I think people who use Apple and Microsoft products, get their internet connectivity through Verizon, purchase wallboard at Home Depot or fill their gas tank at Exxon Mobile do far more damage to America via DIRECT financial support, and are the ones guilty of rationalizing if they took the time to think about it, which most don’t.

Nearly all of those have alternatives, but it is too inconvenient to choose a non-America hating alternative, Sprint instead of Verizon, Linux instead of Microsoft or Apple, so instead of doing that, many people rationalize it by taking a stand football, and by doing so, can face themselves in the mirror.

Good rationalization.

Mine just comes down to 50 years of disappointment and heartache that is the life of a Minnesota Viking fan. Plus I'll be damned if anyone is ever going to cow tow me into refusing to watch my team until they finally win it all.

As for Wildcard weekend,

AFC
#4 Kansas City over #5 Tennessee
#3 Jacksonville over #6 Buffalo

NFC
#6 Atlanta over #3 L.A. Rams
#4 New Orleans over #5 Carolina

Divisional round
AFC
#4 Kansas City over #2 Pittsburgh
#3 Jacksonville over 31 New England

NFC
#6 Atlanta over #1 Philadelphia
#2 Minnesota over #4 New Orleans

Conference Championships
AFC
#4 Kansas City over #3 Jacksonville
NFC
#2 Minnesota Over #6 Atlanta

Super Bowl
Minnesota over Kansas City (1st of the revenge Bowl Games)

I don't hold grudges very often, but when I do they can last almost 50 years

some folks on this thread would rather go into a gay bakery and force them to bake a cake for their heterosexual wedding

Haha.

All I have to say is this, I'm a taxpaying American citizen. If some histrionic keyboard warrior wants to make me out to be Hitler for watching tv and picking winners of games, so be it. I'll trim my mustache and they can get their kicks on the River Styx. I'll only kneel to God, never to some dude on the Internet.

I'm sure all of those firms are funding Leftism and some even supporting activities against America - no doubt in my mind. We should boycott the hell out of them.

But the NFL and its leadership and many players are right there in front of us, telling us and our American values to pound sand.

I say fight them all - and if any of you still watch and support the NFL, you're no better than those clowns who supported the North Vietnamese enemy during my war.

Chainmail, I understand your view though I disagree with your characterization.

I think people who are distracted by the shiny object being dangled in front of them of a kneeling NFL player are more so a useful tool of people who want to destroy America and all it stands for (including American football)

Those of us who wish to hold on to culture which belongs to us, not hijacked by Social Justice Warriors and used against us have just as much a claim to the high ground. We refuse to buckle under by a deliberate sabotage of something many of us view as part and parcel of American life.

Those who clamor for the demise of the NFL because of a subset of players who kneel when the anthem is being played are wittingly or unwittingly being enlisted in the cause of “Social Justice”. They do exactly what the Social Justice scumbags want them to do.

For them, it is a two-fer.

They get to disrupt and destroy something that is part of and unique to America, part of our culture, while at the same time, getting the legitimacy they crave. I refuse to submit and play into their hands.

I understand the feelings of those who think that the NFL should collapse and disappear as a result of this, but I think they are seeing it incorrectly.

We all know that one of the goals of the Left (and who epitomizes the Left more than the Social Justice Warriors who prey on weak-minded or outright corrupt football players like Colin Kapernick et al) is the destruction of American culture and society as we know it.

Professional, College, and High School football is, and has been part and parcel of American culture.

In the 20th century and beyond, we have watched professional sports such as football on weekends with friends, at family gatherings at holidays, and men at war have avidly followed it all over the globe as a reminder of home and American culture.

There are few things culturally as “American” as football, and I am not talking about soccer.

It is an undeniably violent sport, it has winners and losers, generates a lot of capitalist revenue, and is undeniably masculine.

These are all things the Left wants to destroy, and they have figured out a way to do it by using a portion (which is by no means all of them) the idiotic, weak-minded players as a weapon against themselves. The league and its franchises, in their craven desire not to be called racist, has buckled and allowed them to hijack their brand (for many people) and that is a real problem they will have to address.

But that is how the left operates. I will not cooperate with them on this. We should keep what is ours.

Professional football is a business. It is not in any sense important to our country or vital to any national interest. It's not like football players are doing anything important for the defense of our country or anything like it.

The owners and leaders of that business have refused to support our flag and our country itself when some of their players decided to insult our national identity. Instead of firing or disciplining those players, the NFL and the owners went right along with it and we, their audience are supposed to accept it and then keep right on funding them.

Please don't pretend that these pro-NFL posts are patriotic: they aren't. You are just caving in and waving a white flag so you can enjoy your sport viewing - which is all that it is: watching other men exercise for you.

We need to crush any organization that openly attacks our country - and then if football is that important to you, re-start the sport as a patriotic activity after this current set of NFL and team leaders are shut down.

I strongly suspect that none of you have ever served in our services in wartime: you'd likely have a different view of what you're doing.

Chainmail, there are a huge number of veterans who have served, and many who are currently serving in combat areas who don’t see it the same way you do.

I strongly suggest you rethink this sentence and maybe consider writing an apology comment for this remark.

Some of us come from the mindset that you don't brag about what you did for your country, you just hand off the torch to another generation and continue living for the future, not wallowing in the past.

Many old soldiers learned this growing up, some stumbled upon it, but it is something many modern day former veterans should seriously consider.

What happened there stays there, it's like Vegas, it stays in Vegas. Only a liberal would use another man's service and disrespect him for it by twisting the very honor said veteran deserves.

No man, and I mean NO MAN, has a right to ever question the service of an honorably discharged soldier.

That my FRiend is over the line.

I served in combat and was severely wounded - and the realities of what was important and what wasn't shifted for me. I saw many good young men die for our country - while overfed and overpaid "sports heroes" enjoyed all the comforts of home.

Football is a game done for entertainment and has absolutely no benefit of any kind for our security or freedom. My experience in war told me what was important and I will always value my flag and anthem over that sport.

Go ahead, tell us what service you have done.

Chainmail, point is, we don’t see this as waving a white flag.

This type of infighting and fratricide is exactly what the Left wants.

I know you don’t think it is important, and we feel it is, and not just because we like to watch pampered overfed and overpaid sports personalities prance around, but because we see this as part of a larger culture war being waged by the Left.

And just because we aren’t giving up on this account doesn’t mean we condone those who refused to stand, we don’t. I watch with other vets who feel much as I do and are disgusted by it.

There is a lot to be disgusted by in this country that is far more offensive and egregious, but we aren’t going to throw out the country because of those things.

I value my country, and my flag.

However, as angry as I am about the way the left has taken everything and turned it into their weapon to bash this great country we gave all for, does not limit my ability to realize that 99% of those who play the game of football professionally are not in agreement with what the very very few have and continue doing.

You protest, I respect that, I watch my team as I have for 50 years, allow me the same respect for the way I handle my anger.

I never attack a man by attacking his honor for country, you did, and I will repeat, that goes over the line.

RE: Do you take a knee for the national anthem like the NFL players you support?

That’s a typical leftist tactic. Set up a straw man and attach someone.

I don’t support any NFL player taking a knee. But, unlike you, I was willing to put my life on the line for that flag.

What degree of anti-American behavior does it take for you to recognize the NFL for what they are? Do they have to actually burn the American flag on the field for you to wake up? Also, I don’t care if you’re Audie Murphy—you still shouldn’t be supporting anti-American thugs.

What kind of computer and operating system did you spend money on thereby putting funds directly in the hands of anti-American leftists who take that money and fund left wing anti-American activities? By your own standard you should be ashamed and dispose of the evil machine you’re using. You’re anti-American just by virtue of finding left wingers.

I guarantee you that not one penny is transferred between FR and the NFL by participating in the NFL thread.
