Major Evangelical Megachurch Consecrates Their Congregation To The Sacred Heart Of Jesus

During a recent Friday night service, a pastor at New Life Church, an evangelical Protestant megachurch in Colorado Springs, CO, reportedly led the congregation in something you wouldn’t normally expect: the Sign of the Cross and a prayer of a consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

And sure enough, it’s a prayer for consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus composed by Pope Leo XIII in 1899! The slides also have a picture of the statue of St. Peter in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican...

By the way, I love the motto

CHRISTUS VINCIT + CHRISTUS REGNAT + CHRISTUS IMPERAT

but I don't know how to pronounce that last word, in terms of the accent on the syllable: is it---

IMP-er-at? ~or~ im-PER-at?

Anybody know for sure? Latin is Greek to me :o)

The beginning of the end of days, the rise of the one world religion and the “great falling away” (spiritually) of the church spoken of in the bible.

Wonderful. Perhaps a real change for them to turn to Christ?

I’m sorry, I don’t get your point. Is it Catholic Church = Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster? Is that it?

One man made religious ideology has the same value as the other. One may be some 1700 years old, the other may be less than 50 - it’s all the same to me.

Ephesians 4:14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.

“During a recent Friday night service...”

Did this happen before or after the pastor’s wife lit the Shabbos candles at sundown?

Flaky people have been experimenting with other people’s religious rituals since at least 2500 BC.

Almost certainly IMP-erat. “Regnat” sounds like “Renyat” (the “gn” is close to a Spanish “en-yay”; the “g” is almost silent). “Vincit” is “Veen-chit”.

And here is a bit of history: A personal revelation turned in to a man made tradition. Note the sister’s “dreadful confusion”:

Father de la Colombière directed Sister Margaret Mary to write an account of the apparition, which he discreetly circulated in France and England. After his death on 15 February 1682, his journal of spiritual retreats was found to contain a copy in his handwriting of the account that he had requested of Margaret Mary, together with a few reflections on the usefulness of the devotion. This journal, including the account – an “offering” to the Sacred Heart in which the devotion was explained – was published at Lyon in 1684. The little book was widely read, especially at Paray le Monial. Margaret Mary reported feeling “dreadful confusion” over the book’s contents, but resolved to make the best of it, approving of the book for the spreading of her cherished devotion. Along with the Visitandines, priests, religious, and laymen espoused the devotion, particularly the Capuchins. The reported apparitions served as a catalyst for the promotion of the devotion to the Sacred Heart.[15] Jesuit Father Croiset wrote a book called The Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and Fr. Joseph de Gallifet, SJ, promoted the devotion. The mission of propagating the new devotion was especially confided to the religious of the Visitation and to the priests of the Society of Jesus.

We sing this in procession at our FSSP Parish. Campion is right, stress is on the first syllable: IM-per-at.

You think anyone who would get enthused about Christ the King would necessarily get enthused over a whole Pasta Pantheon?

Or maybe that's not what you mean. Please clarify, thanks.

But, in your view, do people have to turn away from Christ the King, in order to turn to Christ?

Seriously, I don't get it.

Here's the prayer. Where's your objection?

Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before Thine altar. We are Thine, and Thine we wish to be; but, to be more surely united with Thee, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to Thy most Sacred Heart.

Many indeed have never known Thee; many too, despising Thy precepts, have rejected Thee. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to Thy sacred Heart. Be Thou King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken Thee, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned Thee; grant that they may quickly return to Thy Father's house lest they die of wretchedness and hunger.

Be Thou King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof, and call them back to the harbor of truth and unity of faith, so that there may be but one flock and one Shepherd.

Be Thou King of all those who are still involved in the darkness of idolatry or of Islamism, and refuse not to draw them into the light and kingdom of God. Turn Thine eyes of mercy towards the children of the race, once Thy chosen people: of old they called down upon themselves the Blood of the Savior; may it now descend upon them a laver of redemption and of life.

Grant, O Lord, to Thy Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give peace and order to all nations, and make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: "Praise be to the divine Heart that wrought our salvation; to it be glory and honor for ever." Amen.
