My pulmonologist recommended I have both flu and pneumonia vaccines, so I did. Before that, I went to Atlanta to help my brother who was having surgery and had a nasty case of something right after I got back to Michigan. I hadn’t had the flu in decades but I was so sick for two days I couldn’t get out of bed.
My brother had surgery in the Atlanta VA hospital. He got an infection and died. Very sad. I wonder if I got sick because of a bug I picked up while visiting him in the hospital. I spent a lot of time there.
My wife visited a local hospital for a test and she swears that’s where this bug came from.
Sorry to hear about your brother.
I used to get sick a lot more when traveling extensively for business. Nothing like a big aluminum tube filled with people from all over the world to create a first-class bug cocktail!
Hubby had surgery and then 3 days in the hospital last year. There was a constant presence of hospital workers in all the waiting rooms wiping every hard surface down with antibacterial wipes. They were serious.
Then brother wound up having surgery and a hospital stay this summer. Different hospital. Not once did I see anyone wiping anything down.
“I wonder if I got sick because of a bug I picked up while visiting him in the hospital.”
sounds like it, and the CDC map shows Georgia as a flu hot spot. and being as sick as you said sounds like it could be the flu.
I’m so sorry for your loss. While in the hospital, he would have been exposed to doctors and nurses who were also treating flu patients. It’s unlikely it was from you.
