I was in Egypt for a couple of weeks this year. Luxor was incredible. I visited both a Coptic church and a mosque. Luxor is roughly 50% Christian and 50% Muslim and they generally get along with each other. My guide had a cross tattooed on his wrist, and the bus driver was a Muslim. Everyone we met was super friendly and they were begging us to go home and tell our friends that Egypt was not as bad as everyone thinks. The US dollar goes a long way in Egypt too, especially when you get out away from the hotel. One night I had a fantastic fancy meal and a couple of beers, and it only cost about $10.
Cairo was pretty amazing too. Honestly, probably the best vacation of my life, and I’ve been to a lot of places.

President al-Sisi seems to be a very decent and courageous man trying hard to reign in the radicals. Their country is so dependent on tourism that he needs to succeed in changing the unfortunate perception so many people have of Egypt.

Thank you for the positive information.

Thanks for reporting your experience. (I’ve never been and will never go...too many other places I would rather see)
