The man who inspired the Ice Bucket Challenge as part of fighting ALS has died.
Anthony Senerchia, a husband and father, lived with ALS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrigs disease, for 14 years.
He was the inspiration behind the Ice Bucket Challenge, which went viral on social media. People around the world would dump ice water on themselves in hopes of raising money to fight ALS.
More than $220 million was raised.
Senerchias wife told Inside Edition she was grateful and overwhelmed at the support.
It was surreal, we just couldnt even believe it, that this is happening, Jeanette said. We would stay up till one,two oclock in the morning just liking and commenting and thanking people for supporting us.
Senerchia is survived by his wife, as well as his nine-year-old daughter.
We really, really need to find a cure for this, she told Inside Edition. It is an absolutely devastating disease.
A memorial fund has been set up for the family.
RIP.
May God bless his soul.
Yes! God bless him and his supportive family that survives him.
