I have been told that the Japanese smile to hide embarrassment or faux pas committed by others. When you look at the picture with Obama, the Emperor and his wife clearly have frozen smiles, but not so much with Trump shaking hands from an upright position.
There does seem to be a difference there.

The difference is stark, isn’t it? The thing I see (reading between the lines) is respect - respect that was absent with Ødungo. As usual the lefties are aghast, believing that Trump is being arrogant and abusive when all he is doing is showing - and demanding decent respect.
