YouTube ^

There really was a reason for every edit. Tom Lehrer's song giving the table of elements, for NCIS. Hopefully, humor.

I know it’s not for real, but it might be a good idea to add a warning that the video shows someone slicing their throat.

Thanks, ETL. I’ll remember that for the future. Do wish we could edit these threads. I’ll assume that your note will have to be the warning. She is, indeed, a strange character.

What some people might not know is that when Tom Lehrer was making these records (50’s/early 60’s) he was a professor at Harvard *and* MIT.

YES! That wonderfully put-on Boston accent. I live in the area now and had some time adjusting to the pronunciations and phrases.

No, I didn’t know about MIT. That’s why we came here. My husband had a leave from work to get his PhD there.

Lived here all my life (except when employed by the Department of the Army) and I say “that's wicked pissah!”

Sorry. Conservative midwesterner. Can’t even swear. I was the obnoxious little girl who asked the little boys not to swear.

Do you pronounce “pecan” as a Bostonian?

“pee-can”-—of course.

How about “route”?

“root” of course.

:-)

pee-cahn - soft a

root

Mother was U of Chicago and spent 10 years in NY. I was raised with a strange mixed accent midwestern NY (not Brooklyn). And mother was extremely formal in her language, so I learned the facts of life in Latin and still find my natural sentence constructs somewhat formal. The first adult book I remember reading when I was about 8 years old was Lamb’s Tales of Shakespeare, and I grew up on all the classic poets.

Tom Lehrer, the only Liberal worth listening to. My favorite is “If you don’t have anything intelligent to say, the least you can do is shut up”.

I remember him on TV and recently hunted down some of his old songs - didn’t find this one though...
