Disney/ABC TV has begun making long-feared layoffs as part of a broader restructuring of its broadcast business, with rumors swirling that bigger movesincluding a possible sale of ABCare coming.
Deadline first reported the staff reductions on Thursday, saying they could impact up to 200 employees across Disney and ABC properties. An ABC source with knowledge of the situation said that the cuts will hit upward of 40 of its employees on the East Coast and still more out west.
Multiple people at ABC told Splinter that there is a widespread belief at the network that the belt-tightening could be tied to a prospective sale by its corporate parent.
Disneys broadcast division, which includes ABC and its local TV stations, is suffering from slumping ad rates and new competition from streaming services. The networks top producer, Shonda Rhimes, creator of Greys Anatomy, Scandal, and How To Get Away With Murder, decamped from ABC for Netflix in August.

DIE!
they already fired some of the stupid personalities on ESPN and there’s more. If only BSPN talked about sports instead of leftard crap like Michael Sam’s assventures, they wouldn not be in this spot.
Thinning of the herd of all CONSERVATIVES.
This is just the opening salvo from increased competition.
My daughter and her husband just left Warner, moved out of Studio City and found equal paying jobs in Phoenix for a fraction of the cost of living.
They were avid hikers and mountain bikers. Sure, there were trails there, but they are all over the place and easy to get to now.
Oh, and the difference in property taxes, hahahahahaha!
Good for them. And it’s good for Arizona to welcome good people.
If they do sell ABC, perfect chance for a conservative billionaire to buy it, but will they? Oh, no, would rather waste hundreds of millions supporting Karl Rove and company.
The stupid party is as the stupid party does...
“I’ll buy that for a dollar!”
Calling Bill O’Reilly.
Just like a sports star and a few wealthy investors can buy a major league team, O’Reilly and some wealthy investors ought to buy ABC.
They could turn it around in a year!
(I know it wouldn’t happen but can wish!)
+1
(more or less)

My wife’s family is from Chicago. Pretty much all of them have moved to Phoenix area. If we didn’t love KY so much, we probably would too. At least we can visit in the winter, kinda like snowbirds. :)
I am enjoying the new Kevin show starring John Ritter’s son. It has a spiritual element to it.
They need to swirl..as in down the flusher.
ABC has gotten worse and worse. My wife watches some of the prime time stuff and we’ve mentioned several times, that the network just keeps pushing the envelope. And to hell with viewers with kids or young adults watching. It’s just trash after trash after trash
And I haven’t even started on the PC BS and unlikable actors and actresses
Hopefully, “The View” is on the chopping block!
How stupid do they think we are? LET them go under...
Decent TV is lacking these days. I watch very little anymore and then mainly CBS. There are nights there is nothing out of however many 100 channels. I did catch the pilot of that Kevin show only because there was nothing else on. It was ok but no staying power. Needs to pick up the pace. Didn’t know it was Ritter’s son. Liked Ritter and hated to see him die so young.
