Category 5 hurricanes hammered Florida 12,000 years ago, study reveals

While Hurricane Irma hit Florida as a ferocious category 4 storm last month, the sunshine state has withstood much stronger storms in the past.

According to new research, category 5 hurricanes may have slammed Florida repeatedly 12,000 years ago, during a climatic shift called The Younger Dryas.

While there were hurricane-suppressing cooler sea surface temperatures at the time, these conditions were outweighed by slowed ocean circulation - which plays a powerful role when it comes to generating hurricanes.

The study, published in the journal Geology, involved analyzing turbidites: a type of undersea landslide deposit that can provide a record for storm events.

As the last ice age ended, turbidites captured records of Florida's stormy days.

...

To understand why Florida was so hurricane prone at the time, the research team analyzed computer models that simulated ocean and atmospheric conditions near Florida during that period.

Currently in modern times, the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) brings cool water south and warm water north.

But during the Younger Dryas period, the AMOC is thought to have weakened considerably, slowing circulation and reshaping environmental conditions across much of the Northern Hemisphere.

Trump’s fault and his deplorables are to blame, also.

We went back in time and caused those hurricanes with our evil Gorebull warming.

So white Neanderthals with camp fires started this whole global warming disaster.

Pass the pipe this way.

We have three seasons here in Florida: Warm, Hot, and Hurricane.

12,000 years ago, isn't that about the time the last ice age was ending?
Some serious Climate Change was indeed going on then.
Hard to blame it on SUVs though.

So global cooling causes big storms?

... and there’s been a stall in the reputed increasing temperatures....

Trump’s fault, no doubt. Either that, or Bush’s fault.

12,000 years ago the ice sheet was still in retreat and putting lots of cold water into the oceans at the northern latitudes. So it appears the lesser circulation allowed the seas at the equatorial region to warm as much as they do currently.

Just guessing that they are right about that theory, though I am not a scientist, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night...

Yes, the two-mile thick ice sheets over north America abruptly melted then. Some suggest that it was a cosmic impact event that imparted the necessary energy to accomplish the meltdown. I think geologists have been unable to explain how solar energy alone was capable of developing the energy required to melt the ice sheets in the amount of time that it actually took. The climate change during the Younger Dryas was astonishing.

Nope - Cat 5 hurricanes never existed until white males started driving SUVs.

Al Gore will be flying his private jet to Switzerland to investigate the matter more thoroughly. :)

.
The entire universe didn’t even exist 12,000 years ago.

Time itself wasn’t even created until 6000 years ago.

All of the years are merely Yehova’s “present.”

Utter Sci-Fi fantasy!

The ice was the result of the increased precipitation caused by the hot oceans after the massive eruption of hot “waters of the great deep” of the Genesis 6 judgment. (Noah's “flood.”)

The accumulation of ice reduced the ocean levels, resulting in the cities that we now see submerged along the shores of Europe and Asia being built.

Fantasy is fun, but it leads to disfunction.

On the grounds of Disney World, there is a Pond called “Bonnet Creek”. It is surrounded by buildings, and landlocked smack dab in the middle of Florida.

However, around the pond are 17th Century Seafaring Artifacts that testify that this little pond was once open to the ocean. It was a favorite hiding place of pirates, who could dash up the 50+ miles into the interior, and hide out there.

The Cannon and other Shipboard fixtures make for a nice waterpark with historic significance.

The little pond became landlocked due to a huge 17th century hurricane.

This was in the days of sail, before the Industrial Revolution.

Just saying.
