An autopsy report showed the teen was knocked unconscious by the large wave and drowned after being pulled into the rough shallows, the outlet reported.
After the teen was knocked off his board, other surfers tried to pull him from the churning waters and started to perform CPR.
...
Zander was such a good, funny kid. He was always joking, and he just loved surfing. He was so jovial, such a joy to be around. I just cant believe hes gone...."
Burke said the teen spoke his last words to a friend as he was riding the swell.
I just got the best wave of my life! he said the teen exclaimed.

I don’t think it’s being done for educational purposes. How would you like it if that was your son lying dead in a morgue for whatever reason, and some online forum was competing to make jokes about it? Way to go, winning hearts and minds over to conservatism.
Should we also mourn the yutes who surf trains (not to cross the border, just as a hobby) and fall off or get hit by low structures?
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
And dudes of all ages go chasing waves in storm surge.
And others have to risk their lives to save these reckless thrill seekers.
“Way to go, winning hearts and minds over to conservatism.”

“Its like the ending of Point Break.”
I loved that movie!
Should we also mourn race car drivers, downhill skiers, rodeo riders, really anyone who dares to ever do anything outside the day to day experience of your typical cranky old crab internet forum poster who’s getting their daily quota of “served ‘em right?”
Does he live in Barbados? Or did he fly there for the hurricane?
He’s from Barbados
“He was somebodys son, brother, grandson, friend. FReepers can be such asswipes at times with trying to make a funny at the expense of someones kid who just died.”
However, you do have to admit that this was a rather foolish way to go - it isn’t like an accident, where it just happens to you, he did it on purpose. The real shame of it is that none of his friends or family had enough influence over him to persuade him to stay home, or at least just WATCH the waves. I get risk-taking for fun - I was young once, too. But I didn’t do anything quite this foolish.
As the old saying goes: there are old pilots, there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots. Apparently, the same applies to surfers.
Sad, what a waste.
Yea right. A cat 5 is in route to Barbados and the local ATC folk are allowing incoming traffic.
Makes sense to me.
He was, what, 16? But for the grace of God, how many stupid things did you do at that age that could very well have led to an untimely death? I know I did plenty. And it wouldn’t have been my parents’ fault either, I was out on my own fairly frequently, driving a (GASP!) car like I was immortal. I love FR but this kind of thing always pisses me off, makes us sound like a bunch of sociopaths.
Piss poor analogy.
Those you mentioned get paid for being stupid.
This kid wasn’t in a contest he was doing what kids do just like the 2 that got lost at sea last year going to the West End. Parents didn’t know they were headed there.Parents thought they were out for a day fishing off Hillsborough
It’s why Jews make such great comedians - their jokes and stories come out of adversity.
Do you know what “surf pro” means?
Died Living.
Good for him
Rest in Peace, Brah....
I’ll be surfing the storm swell this weekend.
Youre right. Heres hopin hes hanging 10 in Heaven.
Right up there with Bodie. Went out doing something he loved.
Cmon. All we are doing is giving him an award.
“Oh no, do I have to be the first to give him a Darwin Award?”
.
Why our age of death is the lowest in the civilized world because of teens - shooting each others, during stupid things or driving like an idiot.
Where I live the only opportunity for decent waves comes with a storm event.
And even then they suck.
Surfside!
