Marysville restaurant denies pregnant woman service for wearing crop top

MARYSVILLE, Wash. - A pregnant woman wearing a crop top says a North Sound restaurant denied her service -- because her baby bump was showing.

The server said the restaurant has a "no shoes, no shirt, no service" policy that’s linked with health code regulations and anyone wearing a crop top would have been asked to cover up. But the customer doesn’t buy it.

Charisha Gobin says she stopped by "Buzz Inn Steakhouse in Marysville with her family Sunday night, in a black crop top T-shirt and a long skirt.

“The waitress/bartender stopped us and said, 'I'm sorry, you can’t be here in that shirt.’ I said, ‘Are you being serious with me right now?’ And she said, ‘Yep, you can't be here,’” Gobin said.

Gobin is seven-and-a-half months pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl.

“Just because my belly was bigger and sticking out. But had it been anyone else, I don't think there would've been any problem whatsoever,” she said.

After the incident, she posted a photo of what she was wearing on Facebook, writing, "I was just denied service at the Buzz Inn on State Avenue in Marysville for my outfit. I'm violating the health code."

The server confirmed she told Gobin the crop top was a health code violation but didn’t explain why. Gobin says she didn't stick around to hear an explaination.

“I was livid. There was no way I was going to stay there,” she said.(snip)

The server says she would've asked anyone else in this same top to cover up.

Gobin says she's never heard of a crop top not counting as a shirt.

“I was wearing a shirt, it had sleeves. I didn't even have cleavage showing,” she said.

Gobin says she feels like she was body shamed.

If it weren’t for social media, attention junkies like this would have a harder time getting their fix.

That’s not a crop top. That’s a t-shirt that won’t cover her belly. She needs to buy some maternity clothes.

I think if this had just been a 300-lb Mexican gal...things would have been OK.

I will say this...in Alabama, this attire is not standard and we would have offered her up a t-shirt if she was too poor to afford a shirt.

I saw a pregnant woman with a bikini top on at Wal Mart a month ago. My friend said a cashier stated the lady was just daring an employee to say something so she could file a complaint. So, you are correct in saying social media is an addiction.

Good for the restaurant. I hope they get more business.

What’s wrong? She’s a weirdo. Says so right there on her ill-fitting shirt.

It may have a lot more to do with the too low-slung skirt.

I hope they train employees in remaining poker-faced regardless of what comes through the line.

I grew up in Washington state back in the early to mid sixties. Back then it was Honky Tonks, taverns, blue-collar workers, fishing villes, and then came... The Beatles and everything changed. We moved overseas to Southeast Asia and when we came back to the States it was total weirdness. I was still wearing button-down collars and stay-press trousers... it seemed (but really wasn’t) to me that everybody else was into beads, and hair, and smoking dope. I was a stranger in my own country. Even then the Seattle area was strange.

To this day I am glad I kept my presence of mind during those impressionable years.
