God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, by The Trail Band, to Steve Grimes creating Christmas decorations in his basement machine shop.

For those curious about the machine shop, I also put up an extract of the raw footage that shows what he had.

Steve died in 2003. His professional world was high end camera repair, but he had a great machine shop in his basement, too, as well as patents in his work. I used this to teach him how to make music videos. He was a fine and good man, and people like that SHOULD be remembered. Every loss of such a person is heartbreaking. I wish that everyone we loved had videos that showed off the qualities that made us love them.

Makes me think of my paternal grandfather. There was nothing that man could not fix and if there was not a tool available he would go out into the shop and fashion a tool to work. He passed away five or six years ago but everything in his shop is right where he left it. Wish I knew how to put his welder, Drill press, lathe, to good use like he always did.

He built his own house(including the wiring ,plumbing, sheet rock, brick work etc.), barns, trailers, etc. I wish I knew 1% of the things that he knew how to do!! Everything he did had to be made from iron, sunken concrete and had to be dead level.

I love hearing stories like that. I’d love a site where we could fill it with stories of these good people. If you don’t have video of him, think about videotaping his tool area as part of the story of who he was to pass down to the next generations. Do you have a picture of him? I’d love to see his face. We are so blessed to have known people like your grandfather.

My grandfather had the tool chest belonging to his father, a carpenter. I remember when he tried to teach me to build a little bench from those tools. I was completely incompetent, and he was so patient.
