Driver fights Richland deputy while holding toddler after crash on ‘Live PD’ [SC]

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC A man led Richland County deputies on a chase at speeds of more than 90 mph, crashed his car and then fought with a deputy while holding a 2-year-old girl – and it was all caught on live TV. Video

The action unfolded on “Live PD,” a documentary series on A&E network that follows law enforcement agencies around the country with cameras and airs live on Friday and Saturday nights.

During Saturday’s show, Deputy Chris Mastrianni is seen pursuing a small SUV down Monticello Road and onto North Main Street, telling dispatch that the chase is reaching speeds of 75 and then 90 mph as the cars whiz past Interstate 20 and onto North Main Street.

Mastrianni follows the car onto Elmore Street, where it crashes and overturns.

“Don’t you move! Get on the ground!” Mastrianni shouts to the driver, who crawls out of the overturned car with a toddler girl in his arms.

The barefoot man struggles with Mastrianni. While holding and, at times, slinging the toddler around, he fights with Mastrianni, who repeatedly yells, “That’s your baby!” and “Let go of the baby!”

Mastrianni eventually wrestles the man to the ground and gets him to let go of the little girl, who stands up while the suspect continues to wrestle with Mastrianni a few feet away.

The deputy holds the suspect to the ground and calls for additional officers to help handcuff him.

Moments later, after the man has been arrested, Mastrianni is heard saying, “It’s OK. It’s OK. ... I’m worried about her now.” The camera then shows the deputy carrying the toddler, her head resting on his shoulder.

Lt. Curtis Wilson said deputies responded around 9 p.m. to a disturbance and a report of gunshots on the 100 block of Furwood Circle. The suspect, 22-year-old Bryan Martin, left the scene, prompting the high-speed chase.

Mastrianni did not know when the chase began that a child was in the car, Wilson said. Both Martin and the girl were taken to a hospital for observation.

The 2-year-old girl was turned over to a relative, and Martin was taken to jail on charges of failure to stop for blue lights and siren, assault while resisting arrest, unlawful conduct toward a child, driving under suspension-third offense and simple possession of marijuana, Wilson said.

Unlawful conduct toward a child is a felony that carries up to 10 years in prison, under South Carolina law. Martin also faces up to a year in prison for the assault charge.

Little punk tried to play the race card. He almost had 2 head on collisions and rolled his SUV without any regard for the safety of his daughter.

Oh, and they did find spent shell casings in his car.

How did I know what certain unmentionable facts the video was going to show even before I watched it?

Yes. Not just me. We all knew!!!

Yeah, the punk tried to pull the race card. One of the producers of the show was seen grabbing his kid away when the kid got loose of his grip. While it is against the policy of the show to get involved, the producer should get a medal for great citizenship.

Meanwhile the perp continued fighting the copper and even after cuffed and on the way to a car was continuing to cite racism trying to incite the crowd. I told my wife the deputy is going to need a bit of a rest as he was in a struggle with that clown for almost five minutes and looked drained.

I was elated when they went back to the scene later in the show when they had right sided the vehicle: casings and a bullet fragment popped up. IMO, the thug must have tossed the gun during the chase. I hope they find it.

Of course, this is what they do and what the big media has told them to do for 50 years.

And when the race card was trumped, the little jerk cried like a little girl.

My wife and I love LivePD, we live in Richland County and recognize a lot of these places. Most of the incidents are kind of silly, but this one got my heart rate up. Great job by the deputy.

If the suspect is not married to the child’s mother, he can forget about obtaining any form of parental custody after that stunt.

Saw it live last night, to say the least there were some pretty intense moments. The thing is he said he was running because of outstanding warrants, the sheriff told him he had no warrants for his arrest.

I watched this live last night.

The guy was on drugs , had drugs on him, and probably was involved in the domestic dispute that involved gun fire.

Truly frightening. Fortunately the little girl is fine. The Sgt in charge said it all at the end of the show

That was an amazing of Police life brought to our living rooms live.

Kudos to Deputy Mastrianni for his handling of that impossible situation.

I really wish LivePD would have gone back with Deputy Kevin Lawrence to record his "discussion" with the know-nothing racists who were busy cat-calling and harassing the LEOs who were handling the situation.

Problem is, pretty soon, miscreants will be pulling outrageous criminal stunts just to be featured on this TV show ...

I like it but my wife is much bigger on LivePD and when I watch it with her, part of the fun is to try to ID the lesser known spots of Richland County. The closest one to me that I have seen is where the dually and trailer was pulled on around Two Notch IIRC.

That takedown was something and with little kid in the mix, tougher than usual.

The deputy did a really good job.

I wouldn’t be a cop these days for anything. The crazies are getting worse all the time. What’s sad it that they seem to have more rights than any victim.

I watch LivePD every Friday and Saturday...love that it goes for hours and hours.

As an aside....Officer Mastrianni has Elvis Presley eyes.
