Before the 60s the Bronx was mostly Jews and Italians. Arthur Avenue in the Bronx is the real little italy of NY, the official one is just for tourists.

Thanks for sharing. It never mentioned what neighborhood the movie was set in but are lots of clues. I always assumed it was Fordham.
It is ironic is that a lot of those neighborhoods after WWII were true "worker's paradises" and great incubators for families. Then LBJ's great society came along in the 60's ruined them.
If that movie was remade today if would be in some hipster neighborhood and Marty would turn gay at the end instead of calling the girl.
