Royal Caribbeans newest vessel - Symphony of the Seas - will be the worlds largest cruise ship when it is delivered in April 2018, the cruise line confirmed today.
At 1,188 feet long and 215 feet wide, the new 16-deck ship will weigh 230,000 GT (gross tonnage), nearly 3,000 more than the current record holder, another Royal Caribbean ship, Harmony of the Seas.

What mindless idiot gets in a rabbit hutch and thinks its a vacation because he can eat ?
I find that these boats are too big to be getaways. More of a theme park on water.....over crowded and bogus.
Yep. More people, more crowded. If I wanted to go to Alaska, I would go to Alaska.
How stable are these ships? I look at their elevated superstructure and wonder.
Floating Diarrhea outbreak waiting to happen...
The one I was on was nuts.
Lots of kids.
Ironically, the bigger the ship the less crowded it seems. We found the events and restaurants to be sparsely attended because there is so much going on and so much to do.
Taking a cruise is on my bucket list. Have no idea if I’d love it or hate it, I have friends that absolutely love cruise ships and take one or two a year and friends that have tried it once and absolutely hated every moment.
Excellent. Very good description. I will use that.
I am a retired ship master, having been a captain of a super tanker and a super containership. Sailed third mate on an old trans Pacific passenger ship (not a cruise liner) and have taken a cruise on an Italian liner that was so old they burned it at the dock for insurance (year after).
Wonderful for the company. Horrible for the passenger.
Which cruise line?
I wonder as well ... another Eastland disaster in the making?
5500 people using the head at once with stomach virus...
They aren’t stable without augmentation devices. Look up some naval architect articles about them. Super top heavy, very low draft. They violate all kinds of historical rules.
Hold 3,000 more!? It’s just a more densely packed floating bug farm. Euw.
It's not the at-sea part that is crowded. It's when you and 6,000 of your new best friends are all trying to get a cab to the airport once you return that is the crowded part.
3,000 is the extra tonnage not passengers.

The only cruise I would do now is a Danube Cruise.
