While the German shepherd Rumor was being crowned the top dog at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York Tuesday night (Feb. 14), police dog Freya was winning accolades of her own on the North Shore. The Bavarian mountain hound, a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office canine that specializes in finding lost children, located a missing 14-year-old autistic child in the woods near Lacombe.
Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a residence after the child went missing. The deputies canvassed the area but could not find the child, the Sheriff's Office said.
Freya and her handler, deputy Ron Olivier, were called to the scene. After taking the scent of the missing child's clothing at her home, Freya began her searching.

It only took Freya 20 minutes to find the kid. Good doggy.

As a Bavarian Mountain Hound, she’s not eligible to appear at Madison Square Garden, so it’s a good thing she has a day job.
To: BBell
I hope she found something special in her dinner bowl last night.

Oops! Never mind. My question is answered right there in the excerpt. It’s a Bavarian mountain hound.

The LEOs love their dogs and horses down here. Assaulting a working dog or horse is the same as assaulting an Officer of the Law. And they will shot you.
